Trying to Get Pregnant

How do you determine cd1?

Hi everyone! I'm pretty new to the board and was hoping some of you may have some advice on what you count as cd1. Here is a little bit of background info:

We have been ttc for 18 months, with one m/c at 9 weeks in 3/10 and have done 2 rounds of iui and four months of hcg. I am currently on my 5th cycle of Clomid (not consecutive).

My doctor has told me to count the first day of any spotting as cd1, so I have done that for the last few cycles. I usually spot, then have nothing for 24 hours, then spot again, then nothing again, and actual "flow" doesn't come until about 4-5 days after the first spotting. So, I today would be cd5, according to my doctor's rule, and I took 150mg of clomid today...I am beginning to wonder if I should have counted yesterday or today as cd1, for more accurate charting. Suggestions? Any advice would be appreciated!

Re: How do you determine cd1?

  • CD 1= first day of flow that requires a pad/tampon.  Spotting, IMHO, does not count as CD 1 and it is odd your DR would say that it was...

  • Since you can spot at anytime during your cycle for various reasons, first day of red flow requiring pad/tampon is considered cd1 as pp said. I would question your dr as to why they think spotting would be cd1, especially if you spot then stop then spot, etc.

My RE also says this CD1=flow not spotting. But I would consult your Dr and see what his/her rationale for counting this way. There may be a reason due to medical concerns that you have???

  • I also spot for about 5 days before AF arrives, I can't imagine counting all those as cd's. I would def. double check with your Dr. but if he/she doesn't have a specific reason for counting that as CD1 and that's their normal rule of thumb, I would get a new Dr. and start counting CD1 as your first day of full, red flow that you need a tampon/pad for.
