Infertility

anyone with Aetna?

Hi ladies,

I have been struggling with insurance issues on top of IF.
I have Aetna and I have a specific pool limited to $ for IF. As far as I remember, was told by Dr office and Aetna, only the Med and procedures come out of the IF fund and all lab and u/s is covered by my regular insurance.
Two months ago we had IUI #3 and the lab and u/s taken on IUI day came out of or IF fund. Previous IUIs and initial lab tests didn't. Dr office told us that it depends who processes the claim on the insurance side!!

I have tried to find my insurance plan but no luck. I was wondering if anyone has Aetna and has more info before I go to my HR office.

Happy New Year!
Thx, WR

Re: anyone with Aetna?

  • I've had Aetna for the past year (and only until 12/31 this year) but I've never heard of this particular issue/coverage....sounds like I may have missed out on some coverage I wasn't sure I had??  Aetna covered my office visits (I paid a copay), bw and us....but definitely not any of our IUIs.

I imagine if you called Aetna directly they'll be able to give you more info than your HR dept.

  • I have Aetna, but unfortunately don't have much info for you. I had two IUIs in 2009, one counted toward my IF max benefit and the other didnt. I really just think I lucked out on one of them not counting. All of my monitoring appts have counted toward my normal insurance- not IF, same with labs. It sucks with insurance companies, because you never really know what they're going to cover until you process the claim.

  • I have Aetna but no IF coverage at all - have you tried the infertility line? They seem better informed than the regular operators. 1-800-575-5999
