Asinine comment by sister

I was going to open up to my sister about our IF issues since I hate being in the closet and suffering silently. However, in a general discussion about fertility where I said that it was easier for some couples than others, she said, "I heard that some men shoot blanks." WTF? I hate to say this about my little sister, but what a dumb a$$ *** of a comment. She is separated from a substance abusing, alcoholic, philandering, irresponsible loser but he has "super sperm."

I hate IF and I hate that I have such an ignorant, insensitive family. After she said that I am never going to open up about our issues, especially since they appear to be solely MFI and I will not abide any neanderthal comments.

I wouldn't hold that one comment against her. That aside, just based on who she is otherwise, you were about to open up and tell her about your IF for a reason. Whatever those good qualities were, don't forget about them. Sometimes in conversation people just say dumb sh!t because they don't know what else to say...or they are trying to be witty and they don't have the genuine wit to come up with something on their own-- just the ability to repeat the cliched crap that they hear from other people. Like "shooting blanks."
