Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Okay, I am officially pissed

We got 20 inches of snow from last night into the wee hours of this morning.  It stopped snowing by the time I got up at 5:30am.  The township did not send plows out once DURING the storm.

Our development is not plowed out at all.  We are stuck.  We got a reverse 911 call saying for people to stop calling to ask when they are being plowed out, they are doing the best they can.  Word on the street (council members) says we are not getting plowed out until tomorrow afternoon sometime.

It is not like this is the first time we have gotten a snowstorm of this magnitude, this is irresponsible IMO and likely politically motivated.  Not to mention the fact that my grandmother's community, a gigantic 65+ community next door to me also has not been plowed.

My husband, an essential employee cannot get out of the house.  On the bright side, at least we got some laundry done and pictures hung.

  • I understand that you're frustrated, but be grateful. You have power, food, shelter...

It's quite normal to for plows not to be out during a storm. It's not safe, it doubles work, and it just creates more ice. Perhaps the workers are snowed in too?    Give it time.

Last winter we had a wicked storm roll through here. No power,  for 55 + hours in the dead of winter, no heat,  highways were closed, there was water but it was cold and in short supply, phone lines were out,..no way in, no way out.    That's scary....   Like I said, I understand that your frusterated, but be grateful and give it time.

I was just going to say this. Around here it's very common for plows not to go out during bad storms. if it's not safe for you to drive, it's not safe for them either.

    I'm with these ladies.

Suck it up, enjoy the time home alone with your family.

I kind of wish they hadn't done such a great job plowing here b/c I would have been able to stay home with mine today!

Um, yeah. The Bump be too crazy for pics of my kid.

Oh yeah, I know... everything in perspective.  That happened to us a few times when I was younger, it was scary.  But we have had much worse storms and gotten plowed out much sooner... idk what is going on.

  • I'd say move on out to sunny California but we just got slammed with a week of rain.
  • I'm in NYC and my mom and ILs are in Monmouth County and neither is plowed out either yet.  I know I saw a bulldozer working on getting snow out of the way for the plows on my street, but my street and the cross street I can see are both still impassable and plows haven't made it here.  DH took a walk and apparently a bus is stuck blocking our street!  I think the wind conditions made this a much harder storm to recover from because every time they cleared the wind blew the snow back everywhere.  That and the budget cuts that have gone on in all the local budgets.

  • I hope you are staying warm and cozy and have plenty of food.  I'm sure you don't want to hear this but I'm kind of jealous of your snow day!

  • Same here! It is horrific!  Our road is not plowed and the driveway is not either.  It is awful.   We do only live 15 minutes or so away from each other though so obviously the  wouldn't be much different!  Hang in there.  Hope you get plowed out before tomorrow afternoon!
  • That sucks. Hopefully they get things handled soon!

  • No plows here either. The thing is it gets worse after the plows come by because then you're really trapped in your parking spot because they plow an 8 foot wall of snow against your car. They're barely getting the main roads done. It's just been really bad.
  • Yeah I am being a whiny brat.  It could def be worse, I know.  I've had a headache for 2 days now, I just want out, or the promise of getting out tomorrow.  And I am on vacation from work anyway, so this is just putting a big damper on my time off... boooohoooo, lol.

This.  Unless you have an emergency, I don't think it's a big deal.  We got a ton of snow last winter and the plows rarely ever went out during the storms.  We lived two doors down from the state senator at the time and even that "political motivation" couldn't get the plows out :).

  • Florida is a good option as long as you don't mind the rouge hurricane every couple of years, the tornados, and nasty thunderstorms. Honestly I'd love to live near snow, but reading some if the above posts makes me want to think twice!
  • I'm with you, AfterAll. I live in southern NY, about 45 miles north of NYC and the plows were definately not out except on the major highways until late this morning.  Which is fine and dandy, but SOME people have to go to work, especially when the county doesn't feel that it is bad enough to call a state of emergency.

In reality, we live in the mid-atlantic/new england and there is NO reason that the towns and cities don't properly deal with snow!

  • I actually understand because it stopped snowing this morning and USUALLY the municipalities in NJ are really good with plowing. So when you're not plowed out by the afternoon, it's rare.  We're very lucky in our state in that we generally don't suffer too much from intense storms. Blizzards like yesterday's are rare.

My DH commutes to NYC and he got snowed in with me because they didn't get to our condo community until later in the day. Got a little stir crazy but not too badly. But we were dug out by early afternoon.

I'm probably going to brave the elements tomorrow with DS (I'm off this week) and use his $10 Carter's card.

  • I'm in NJ and we were plowed this morning by like 9am in our development. For us, last year was really bad in how long it took us to get plowed. Then I found out that last year, they changed the contractor they used. I guess they got lots of negative feedback and switched again for this year since we were plowed faster. They also do not plow in my township until the storm is over usually.
