Runners..what temp is to cold to...

take a 21 month old running. I always run with in the winter with him where I live but it doesnt normally drop below the low 40s. I am now in New England for 3 weeks and it is FREEZING!( 17 degrees today) I do have my wind shield with me which does keep some cold air/wind out. At what temp. would it be too cold? Thanks!

  • Too cold.  We have the advantage of running and keeping ourselves warmer with significant increased circulation.  I don't know if there is any data out there on an official "too cold" temp, but as a future parent (and pediatrician) I would err on the "too cold" side.  I love running in the cold, so I understand but 17 degrees for a little one is pretty cold.

  • I don't necessarily think 17 degrees is too cold of if you aren't out for too long and they are dressed appropriately. We were in Whistler recently and it was probably around 17 degrees. I didn't go for a run but we walked into and around the village with the kids for probably 45 minutes or so. We just had DS in a full snow suit (with boots) a hat, hood, and mittens.
  • I would agree with it being ok, definitely bundle up a lot and just don't go for too long!
