Trying to Get Pregnant

Warning: Stupid question. How do I bake a potato?

I'm serious here, unfortunately.  I've always used the shrink-wrapped kind that you can just throw into the microwave for 7 minutes and they're done.  But the grocery store was out of those and I had to get, uh, naked potatoes today.  I asked Dr. Google but I'd rather hear real-life techniques from you expert potato-bakers :)  TIA :)

  • Rinse off with water then wrap in foil and put it straight in the oven until soft. Depending on the size it may take an hour or so to cook all the way.

  • i usually just throw it in the oven with whatever im making for dinner, usually for about 45 mins to an hour.  BUT, you can make a baked potato in the microwave if you poke it with a fork a few times and wrap it in a slightly dampened paper towel.  about 4 mins per potato.  it does not come out crispy at all like it would in the oven, but it gets cooked inside just the same.

I like to eat the skin...so I wash them well, rub them in olive oil and kosher salt, poke holes in it with a fork (this is important) and bake at 400 degrees for 45-60 min

You can also poke holes in it, wrap in foil and bake at 400 for 40-50 min, the skin will be softer, but won't have the yummy oil/salt flavor

This!  But I use just regular ol' butter and salt.

  • Wrap them in foil and bake on 350 for about an hour, check every 30 minutes by sticking a fork in them.

    OR

Just put them naked on a microwave safe plate, poke it all around with a fork and microwave on high for 10 minutes.

  • You can microwave a regular potatoe as well. Just make sure to poke holes in it with the fork. Zap it for 6-7 minutes and you are done.

Otherwise oven, but it takes forever!

  • Do you have a pressure cooker? The easiest and tastiest way to cook a baked potato is in the pressure cooker. It maintains all the natural flavors and minerals of the potato and doesn't use as much energy to cook. It takes a total of 15-20 minutes to prepare. It really cooks for about 6 minutes, but you have to let the pressure build in the cooker and then let the pressure subside after cooking. The potatoes cooked in pressure cookers taste better than any other potatoes I've ever eaten. . . .and I'm a southern belle, so I eat a lot of potatoes!

  • I like my potatoes with a crispy shell and soft on the inside...so here is how I bake mine.

Poke the potatoes with a fork several times (all over not in one place) and then drizzle with olive oil. I then sprinkle sea salt all over them and rub it in really good.

Place in preheated oven (about 425 ish) directly on the rack, no foil, pan or anything, just potato and rack.

Bake 1 hour or until fork can easily be inserted and pulled out.

    Enjoy!

  • I cannot cook a potato in the oven to save my life. So here is my recipe -

Wash potato, wrap in plastic wrap, poke holes in it with a fork, cook in the microwave about 7-9 minutes (depending on the size of potato and power of microwave).
