Weird, random, possibly TMI question for moms

I was just thinking about this the other day...  what do you do with baby when you go to use the bathroom (at home when you're alone)?  Take him/her along?  Put him/her in the crib or Pack and Play for a few minutes?  Has this changed as your child grew older?

The things to think about...

  • honestly, I don't go all that often anymore (probably because I'm not drinking enough water) but I have brought her in with me, I've put her in a safe place (on the floor or in crib) and I've passed her off to my DH.

But seriously, I just don't go all that often so it hasn't been a huge issue....

  • I should preface this by saying I don't think my baby is going to die if she fusses or cries for a split second...

I either put her in the swing, bouncer, or crib, depends on her mood. If she's being really fussy, I'll take her in the bathroom and lay her on the bath mat (she likes the softness) but that is really rare. I also shower every day and do the same thing - minus the bathmat option. 9 times out of 10, she's perfectly fine while I"m showering. Those few 1 times out of 10...well, I don't think I did any long term damage and she seems to still like me. Plus I smell good so that's a bonus.

You will find several ways to use the bathroom.  You will become very creative.  Yes, at times you will be holding the baby while using the bathroom.  Place them in their crib, PNP, etc.  As they get older (speaking for myself only) it's gets harder.  My child tends to scream and cry, when I really need to go.  I've even place her on the hairchair and rolled her in front of the bathroom and left the door open.

Something to consider is getting a highchair with wheels so you can roll them around the house.

  • Sometimes i take her with me, other times i put her outside the door and let her sit on the floor.  She ends up watching me wondering what i am doing, but hey, what can you do!!  Smile
  • As a baby when she wasn't mobile I would leave her wherever she was.

When she was mobile I'd put her in the crib.

Now she follows me in or is constantly knocking on the door outside of the bathroom.

  • LOL, cute.

When she wasn't mobile, I would just leave her where she was.  When she begin crawling (which was frickin' early) I would either put her in her crib, PnP or Bumbo.

Now, if we're home alone she'll just follow me in there.  She'll stand on my scale and "talk" to me until I'm done.  Lately though she has been curiously watching me as I 'finish'.

  • I usually put her in her swing, bouncy seat or crib. When Kate was tiny, I would wait until she was asleep but now I just run in and out while she's swinging, bouncing or cribbing it. I think I went once or twice while holding her, but then couldn't wash my hands so had to put her down anyway.

Like Mrs K&C I don't mind if she's fussing or whining a wee bit.

  • Before crawling/walking, I pretty much just did speed trips.  Or would put him in the bouncy chair just outside the door with the door wide open.  Always made sure the front door was locked though because there's clear view into our bathroom from the threshold. HA!

Once he started moving, I would put him in the crib or would just leave the door open & light off - the light has a fan & I can't hear over it.  The house is baby proof for a reason, right?

Now I go to the BR with the door shut & most times he's banging on the outside.  So at least I know where he is.  LOL  Either that, or I have him sit on his potty & we both try!  LOL

  • Z was a fussy needy baby who needed to be held 24/7. I held her while I peed, even nursed sometimes. Maternity pants are great cause you can do the one handed :)

G I could set him down in his crib next to the bathroom or leave him in the swing while I ran up stairs.

    Mama to Z - 5.5 years, G - 3.5 years, & M - 1.5 years.
  • I put Ryan either in his swing or brought the bouncy seat to the bathroom...or spread a blanket out on the floor outside the bathroom and laid him on it.

Nobody said life would be easy, they just promised it would be worth it.

  • I always try to escape at home but leave the door opne and let her crawl around...but I bring a toy in so if she follows me she is destracted.

When she was newborn I peed all hte time with her in the Moby.

Out and about I hold her while I pee...Once I seriously almost had to ask a stranger to button me back up!!
