Re: ??? Weekly Check-in ???

  • (1) What week are you in/how old is your LO? 8 months old as of yesterday

    (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share? I'm sooooo ready for the Christmas break! 1.5 days to go... As far as milestones go, we started finger foods this week. So far sweet potato pieces and banana are the big hits. Smile

    (3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up? Nothing until the 12 month checkup

    (4) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week? NAPS. I posted before about letting Will CIO a little bit this week (I still went in and checked on him, etc., but I didn't rock him to sleep or anything). It was awful, but I knew he was still exhausted and desperately needed to sleep...we did this for 2 days, and today he went down for both of his naps like a champ - he woke up briefly during one but went back to sleep within a minute or two. So I'm really hoping that we're over that hurdle!

    (5) Do you have a baby blog (link us up!)? Well kinda - it's not really a baby blog, but I do post photos and talk about Will and Dash a bit on it. Linky.

    (6) What do you do to make traveling with children easier? We haven't taken a real trip with the boys yet - I think the longest they've been in the car was a few hours, and we've never gone on a plane with them. For car trips, I just make sure I have everything close at hand (a variety of toys to hand to them when they accidentally drop one over the side, etc.).

    (7) Did you have a C-section/vaginal birth? What was your recovery like? I had an emergency C-section after a failed vaginal attempt. I was induced and in labor for 22 hours, 3 of which were pushing - at that point it was clear that the boys weren't going to come out and I was too exhausted to keep going (I was so tired that my contractions were weakening even though my doctor put me on a Pitocin drip).

I'd heard so many horror stories that although the surgery itself didn't frighten me, I was terrified of the recovery. But honestly? It wasn't bad at all! I'm not putting a brave face on it - I'm a big ole wuss when it comes to pain - but it wasn't really any worse than recovering from my appendectomy.

I got up and moved as soon as I can, and that's key - the first walk down the hallway sucks donkey balls, but it gets easier from there. I also accepted all of the post C-section pain relievers they offered - take them all ladies, they don't give out medals for toughing it out! Plus the meds make anything potentially difficult (like starting to breastfeed) easier since you're not stuck focusing on your aches and pains and can concentrate on the task at hand.

I was in the hospital for 6 days because of complications from an epidural headache, and by the time we got home I had zero problems walking up and down our stairs, bending over the cribs, etc.

    (8) Do you generally buy new or used clothes and toys for your LO? I get clothes used about 90% of the time - eBay is my best friend ever! Buying the amount of clothes I need for two kids would just be way too expensive, especially considering that they need to be replaced every 2-3 months right now.

For toys I generally get new. I know that most used toys are fine once they've been cleaned, but since my dudes put EVERYTHING in their mouths, I'm all weird and neurotic about having a toy that's previously been chewed on (or smeared with god knows what). This is especially true for soft toys...just imagining the amount of spit etc that gets absorbed into the stuffing...blech!

    (9) What questions would you like to see in upcoming check-ins? When do you plan to expose your kids to TV (as in "watch an entire child's program" not "they caught 15 seconds here and there")? Is there anything your parents did while raising you that you'd like to repeat or avoid with your own child(ren)?

  • (1) What week are you in/how old is your LO?

    24 weeks and 2 days

    (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?

Nothing much exciting happening here.  We're taking our longest flight (1 hr) tomorrow morning and then a 3 hr car ride to my in-laws "summer" house, so that should be interesting.

    (3) Next appointment date?

We have K's 6 month appointment in 2 weeks (just after the new year).

    (4) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week?

We've been struggling a bit at night with sleeping.  He will NOT sleep with anyone else but me.  Even MH is having a really hard time putting him to sleep. It's exhausting!

    (5) Do you have a baby blog (link us up!)?  No baby blog.  :(

    (6) What do you do to make traveling with children easier?

I bring his favorite toys (Sophie and a book) and make sure we have an aisle seat, on the plane, so it's easy for me to get up and walk with him when he gets cranky.  Haven't been in the car for more than 30 minutes, so we'll see how this weekend goes with our 1st road trip.

    (7) Did you have a C-section/vaginal birth? What was your recovery like?

I had a vaginal delivery.  I was induced on the 3rd of July at 6 pm, and he was born on the 5th around Noon.  He did NOT want to come out.  :)  The labor was ok until the night of the 4th.  I had a lot of back labor and I wasn't allowed to have an epidural until I was farther along, so waiting for that was a big PITA.  But, the actual pushing part was quick (just about an hour) - I was worried my doctor wasn't going to make it in time.

The recovery was ok.  I had to have my placenta manually removed after delivery because a part of it was still attached to the uterus.  That was NOT fun.  And because of that, I had a few stitches down below.  That was the most painful part of recovery (thank goodness for the boppy - I used it as a butt cushion).  But, after 2 weeks, I was back to normal.

    (8) Do you generally buy new or used clothes and toys for your LO?  I got a lot of second-hand clothes from my sister-in-law, which was useful for the first 3 months.  Now, I generally buy his clothes new.  And like Lisa, I also buy toys new - I'm weirded out by germs, too!

    (9) What questions would you like to see in upcoming check-ins?

How did you decide on LOs name?  Do you plan to have more children?  If so, how far apart in age?

**a girl from Hawaii, living and driving in South India**

  • (1) What week are you in/how old is your LO? Bella will be 17 months old in a couple of days! I'm 27 weeks pregnant.
    (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share? I'm completely exhausted and having all sorts of aches and pains this pregnancy, it's SO different from the easy breezy pregnancy with Bella. She's STILL not walking yet, she's getting braver about going with holding one hand but she's scared I think. I can't believe she's not walking! THe pedi says "she's walking if she holds onto toys and walking behind them"... um not in my book! She's also talking up a storm, she says Elmo, poop, pup, and more and knows a million different animal sounds. I love it! Also the other day, I said "are you wet" and she said "yeah" and sure enough she was! I think next month we'll start putting her on the potty.
    (3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up? I have one on the 3rd for my glucose thing. I have to get her in for an 18 month check.
    (4) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week?IWe're actually pretty smooth sailing for now. I really want to get the nursery done but with the holidays it's been insanely busy so that hasn't happened yet.
    (5) Do you have a baby blog (link us up!)? I blog about a little of everything on my blog. But it's www.passionanadparadise.blogspot.com
    (6) What do you do to make traveling with children easier? Um yeah so I needed this question last week! :) We took tons of toys on the plane and she wanted NOTHING to do with any of them and everything to do with the magazines and buttons and things around her. She also had problems getting her ears to pop and refused to drink so needless to say, it was VERY challenging.  As far as car trips, she's taken to hating her carseat. I've thought about turning her around because she screams bloody murder whether it's 5 mins or 50 mins. I'm not sure what's wrong with her other than her legs are VERY  scrunched up. We've tried "car only' toys and giving her snacks but it doesn't seem to make a difference. SHe's fine once we arrive at our destination... any tips?(7) Did you have a C-section/vaginal birth? What was your recovery like? Vaginal and it wasn't bad. Ibuprofen and I were very good friends for about a week. I think the hardest part was being tired right after giving birth and being light-headed. I lost a lot of blood, so someone had to help me to the bathroom the first couple of days because I was so dizzy. (8) Do you generally buy new or used clothes and toys for your LO? I get clothes used about 90% of the time unless they are a gift. We just recently started needing to buy her clothes because she was growing out of them so fast. I hit up the kids consignment and found great deals. We did buy her a cozy coupe for her first birthday and that was new, only because it was $15 cheaper to buy new than any of them that I saw used. Most of her toys have been gifts or from rummages that Ryan's grandpa has found. We clean then up and then it's like a new thing for her. I did buy her teethers all new though. Lisa mentioned soft toys and we don't really have any. She only has one stuffed animal (all the rest she got I gave away, I HATE stuffed animals) and it was new when she got it. I would NOT let her have a used stuffed animal, that's gross IMO. The latest thing is that we're going to do a toy swap with another couple every couple of months. They have a little boy and they mentioned it. I thought it was a great idea so it will be like every few months they both get new toys and neither of us have to spend a thing!
    (9) What questions would you like to see in upcoming check-ins?Any "mom to mom" tips or tricks that really work for you or make your life easier? How often do you and DH have date night. How did you find your babysitter? Do you wait until your LO is asleep and then go or do you put him/her down first? What are your LO's favorite toys? Top 5 favorite baby/kid/mom items.
  •   (1) What week are you in/how old is your LO? 22wk 1d (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share? I'm excited that I can feel the little guy moving throughout the day. I used to only feel him when I was sitting still and concentrating. It's nice to have some confirmation that he's alive and well in there. (3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up? I'm looking forward to spending the holidays with my parents. I haven't seen them since I found out I was pregnant. My mom is beyond excited. We also have a f/up US next week to get better pictures of the left side of the heart.  (4) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week? I'm having a belly growth spurt, and I think I'm experiencing round ligament pain. It's not comfortable. (5) Do you have a baby blog (link us up!)? Link in siggy
  • 1) What week are you in/how old is your LO?  25w2d

    (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?  All and all pretty good.  I am tired all the time and tend to be exhausted doing any task.  My lower back pain happens everyday, but I guess I'm just used to it now.  It could be worse though so I will take it :)

    (3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?  My monthly checkup is on the 30th and my cervical length u/s is on the 28th.  My OB is finally off of maternity leave so I'm excited that I will be seeing her again.  She left for maternity leave on the day I found out the sex of LO.

    (4) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week?  Nothing really other than being exhausted all the time.  I did take my glucose tolerance screening last week so I'm anxious to get the results of that.  I'm not too concerned, but you never know - I have a mad sweet tooth though.

    (5) Do you have a baby blog (link us up!)?  Link in siggy :)

    (9) What questions would you like to see in upcoming check-ins?   How do/did you mentally prepare to give birth?  How do you get your mindset to think "hey, I can do this"?  To me, it's the most anxious thing ever and honestly, I don't know how I'm going to do it.

  • (1) What week are you in/how old is your LO?36 weeks...getting closer to the finish line.
    (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share? Feeling pretty good. Tired of not being able to bend at the waist, and my ribs ache, but otherwise, not much to complain about.
    (3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?Next Wed, Dec 29th. Starting my weekly visits this week. At my 36 week appt, I was 1 cm dialated but with a very high cervix. FUN! They will be doing a growth u/s in 2 weeks, so that will be fun to see LO again.
    (4) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week?Nothing really, just need to really start mentally preparing myself!
    (5) Do you have a baby blog (link us up!)? I do! https://wollmans.blogspot.com (not sure how to make it clicky)
    (6) What do you do to make traveling with children easier?I would love to know the answer to this! Both sets of grandparents are on opposite coasts, so we will be dealing with this often.
    (7) Did you have a C-section/vaginal birth? What was your recovery like? Again, curious about this, as I'm starting to mentally prepare for the whole labor process.
    (8) Do you generally buy new or used clothes and toys for your LO?I've been buying new, but I've bought some used CDs to save money.
    (9) What questions would you like to see in upcoming check-ins? I'm sure I'll have much more once baby is actually here. Maybe, how did you arrange your parents visits before or after you gave birth (meaning did one set come when the baby was born, and the other after; were both sets there for the birth; how long did they stay and help? etc)

  • 1) What week are you in/how old is your LO? 6.5 months

    (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share? I feel like crap.  Mason has his 6 mon check up last monday and was 17.1 lbs and 26.5 in long and then a few days later he started to get a runny nose just like he did after his 4 mon shots but this time it developed into ear infections and upper respiratory infection.  I was hopeing since he is mostly BF that we could be able to skip the ear infections...wishful thinking anyway.  Then over the weekend I started with the same crap and now I am sick as a dog too and my step son has it too.  And to top off the fun MH got transferred to shift work and he had to work nights all through it so a sick baby and a sick mommy with no help is exhausting.  So ready to be off work so we can all get well can catch up on sleep even though i am not finished shopping and have no energy to do it...oh well

    (3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up? not until 9 mon, but I hope we don't have to make anymore sick visits

    (4) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week? he has refused to nurse the last week I am just hopeing that is it just because his nose is so stopped up but we may be weaning

    (5) Do you have a baby blog (link us up!)? nope

    (6) What do you do to make traveling with children easier? we haven't done much yet but we have my brothers wedding next month so we shall see

    (7) Did you have a C-section/vaginal birth? What was your recovery like? I had a vaginal birth after an almost 36 hours of labor and 3 hrs of pushing.  I wasn't sore and didn't take many meds after but the worst part was my lack of bladder control

    (8) Do you generally buy new or used clothes and toys for your LO? I have a lot of hamidowns and I look at the consignment stores first before I buy anything new

  • (1) What week are you in/how old is your LO? 5 months old today!!!

    (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share? We had peas today for the first time, that's about it!  I'm starting to think that either this kid does't have taste buds, or he just doesn't care and will inhale anything!  His reaction to rice, sweet potatoes, zucchini, and peas have all been the same, "yum, more!!!"

    (3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up? In January

    (4) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week? It's been a pretty good week.  :)

    (5) Do you have a baby blog (link us up!)? Nope.

    (6) What do you do to make traveling with children easier? We went 5 hours in the car for Thanksgiving, and will do the same tomorrow for Christmas.  He was an angel last time and slept most of the way, I'm hoping he will again tomorrow.  I just made sure he had his favorite "puppy" toy and several extra binkies for me to hand to him if needed.  We stopped halfway  to stretch and have a bottle, and he really was great the whole time.

    (7) Did you have a C-section/vaginal birth? What was your recovery like? I had a schedule c-section due to him being breech.  It wasn't at all what I wanted, but I came to accept it and it was fine.  Recovery wasn't as bad as everyone made it sound like it'd be.  I tried to stand up later that evening (which was, I admit, extraordinarily painful), but then the next day I was able to walk a few steps (assisted) to the bathroom.  By the second day after I was able to walk up and down the hallways slowly, and by the time we came home, I was pretty much fine (just taking it really slowly up and down stairs).  I did have some trouble with my wound breaking open about 2 weeks later, but that healed right back up okay.  The worst part of the recovery for me was the itching of the wound as it healed!

    (8) Do you generally buy new or used clothes and toys for your LO? We've gotten a few items of clothing secondhand from family, but otherwise we primarily buy new.  I  know that secondhand can save tons of money, but  guess I'm a little OCD when it comes to baby stuff.  I know how much my son drools, spits up, and whatnot on absolutely everything, and I guess I'm not interested in whatever's on stuff from someone else baby.  I know you can wash things, but it's just not the same in my mind.

  • (1) What week are you in/how old is your LO? 13 months, 2 wks

    (2) Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?  he learned how to do the "touchdown" motion this past weekend!

    (3) Next appointment date?  15 month appt

    (4) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week? I don't know, he's been pretty good - poor kid fell asleep in his high chair last night since he didn't take a second nap, so I had to change him over the course of a couple hours out of clothes and day diaper into jammies and night diaper!

    (5) Do you have a baby blog (link us up!)? yup - link in siggy

    (6) What do you do to make traveling with children easier?  music from his favorite TV shows, toys he loves, keep some toys in the car that are car-toys only, and remembering to bring a nite-lite for the hotels.  We'll see if he does better this time than the last time we took him anywhere (which was July - he was a nightmare).

    (7) Did you have a C-section/vaginal birth? What was your recovery like?  Tried to push for several hours before having a C/S.  Apparently recovery was worse than having one or the other.

    (8) Do you generally buy new or used clothes and toys for your LO?  Generally we buy new stuff on sale, or used stuff through ebay, CL, etc.   I can't remember the last thing we paid full price for.

    (1) What week are you in/how old is your LO?36 weeks...getting closer to the finish line.

    you're next!

    (1) What week are you in/how old is your LO?  6 weeks

    (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?  Not bad...I'm surviving my first week home alone with E, it's going okay!  So glad my mom was here for a month though, I don't think I could have done this before last week!

    (3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?  2 mo appt in January

    (4) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week?  We've had a few - 1. the spit-up - see my mommy fail post Stick out tongue  2. 6 week growth spurt?  I thought these only last a few days, but he's been eating every hour or so for hours on end, every day, since Friday.  I'm starting to think maybe he's just not getting enough milk, but he has plenty of wet and poopy diapers.  When will this end?!

    (5) Do you have a baby blog (link us up!)?  No baby blog, but I talk about baby sometimes at <snip> at blogspot dot com

    (6) What do you do to make traveling with children easier?  we're traveling with him for the first time in February, to see my grandparents. I'm trying not to think about it, b/c it seems so daunting!

    (7) Did you have a C-section/vaginal birth? What was your recovery like?

I had a vaginal birth.  Recovery was actually more difficult than I thought it would be, though looking back, it wasn't bad.  I just didn't expect a lot of the things that happened - *huge* amounts of swelling (sit on ice packs, tucks pads help a little too.  the swelling made walking uncomfortable), *huge* blood clots (I passed 2 almost the size of my fist a few days after birth - almost comically hilarious when I saw the first one plop out of me).  Like everyone says, staying on top of pain meds really helped.  Each time I thought I felt better and stopped, I regretted it.  I took 600mg of ibuprofen every 6 hours, for over 10 days straight.  That said, I was able to walk to the bathroom a few hours after birth, and was up and about right away.

    (8) Do you generally buy new or used clothes and toys for your LO?  We haven't bought any toys yet, but we've gotten some new as gifts (off our registry).  I prefer to get toys new for the same reasons others have stated.  I love secondhand clothing though - they outgrow everything so quickly!!  I've bought a few clothing items used, and have gotten a lot of hand-me-downs (love the hand-me-downs!)

  • (1) What week are you in/how old is your LO? about 8.5 months

    (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share? This guy is crazy active and gets into everything. I can barely keep up with him crawling, pulling up, cruising and "walking" while holding onto our fingers. It's my exercise, I guess!

    (3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up? 9 month check up in Jan

    (4) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week? Still working on sleeping. It's amazing how they constantly go through phases of good sleep vs wakefulness. For the past few weeks, he's been very aware of my absence when we wakes up and needing lots of cuddles to go back down.

    (5) Do you have a baby blog (link us up!)?

    (6) What do you do to make traveling with children easier? Haven't traveled yet, but hoping to test it out with a neighbor island trip in the next few months

    (7) Did you have a C-section/vaginal birth? What was your recovery like?

Vaginal. Labor was really long - 38 hours. Recovery was smooth, but painful. I really had no clue it'd be that sore and for so long, too!!!

     (8) Do you generally buy new or used clothes and toys for your LO?

Almost all used. I have trouble seeing the value in paying more than a couple bucks for each piece of clothing considering the amazing values I can find at local thrift stores. Same goes for toys and books. I clean everything and he doesn't know the difference!

    (9) What questions would you like to see in upcoming check-ins? I liked Lisa's question.... "When do you plan to expose your kids to TV (as in "watch an entire child's program" not "they caught 15 seconds here and there")?"

For toys I generally get new. I know that most used toys are fine once they've been cleaned

Hmmm, MIL has a lot of old toys that she brings out for B to play. They haven't been played with for at least 5 years (the age of the next youngest grandkid) and some toys are possibly as old as 15 years old (the age of the oldest grandkid). No one cleaned them though. Should I be boiling it in hot water or doing a hot/soapy water rinse next time I go over to their house?

  • (1) What week are you in/how old is your LO?

    7 months 1 week

    (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?

Pretty good overall. He finally pulled himself up to a full standing position without any urging from me. He was able to do it with bribing this past weekend.

    (3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?

    9 mo

    (4) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week?

Napping. He hates napping. He hates his crib. It's a challenge every time.

    (5) Do you have a baby blog (link us up!)?

We do! but it's a private one because we created it for his eyes only (not even the grandparents can see it =P) so it's not viewable to anyone else either =/ sorry!

    (6) What do you do to make traveling with children easier?

Packing as light as possible! And the ergo comes in really handy.

    (7) Did you have a C-section/vaginal birth? What was your recovery like?

VB. Recovery wasn't too bad. PP bleeding lasted a longer than I expected (a little over 2 months vs 1 month for most ppl) but other than that it wasn't too bad IMO.

    (8) Do you generally buy new or used clothes and toys for your LO?

He pretty much only wears hand-me-downs, except for a few things I can't resist buying for him (which I buy new).

He has a few old toys (hand-me-downs) but I always buy new ones.

I would clean them, not with bleach or chemicals. Just hot soapy water should be fine.

Yup, a good wash with hot water and soap should be fine. Since B has played with them already it's probably not a huge issue, but if it bothers you it wouldn't hurt either. Smile

  • (1) What week are you in/how old is your LO?

She'll be 11 months old on Christmas Day.

    (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?

Had a job interview on Monday...will hear if I am a candidate for round two after the New Year.

    (3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?

12 month  pedi appt. next month.

    (4) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week?

Wakeful baby! Ugh. She's been tough to get down and then, once she does go down, she only sleeps 1-2 hours at a time. I think it's teething...AGAIN...one year old molars making their way down since she's reaching REALLY far back into her mouth and wants to cram her spoon, toothbrush, etc. back there.

    (5) Do you have a baby blog (link us up!)?

Sorta...once the crap went down at work I haven't posted...because I'd really like to post about it but I don't know who's reading it. So I just stopped posting. Lame, but true.  It's in SORE need of updating! www.cali2okie.blogspot.com

    (6) What do you do to make traveling with children easier?

Ergo carrier is a must! I am also glad we have a Dad Gear backpack...it holds EVERYTHING and then some! Also, I've never traveled with her alone...always with DH or my mom, and that has been a tremendous help!

    (7) Did you have a C-section/vaginal birth? What was your recovery like?

I was induced and had a medicated vaginal birth. I had a tough third stage, but other than that, it was a relatively easy recovery. I was up and walking around within hours. I had a small tear but didn't feel it. I did have (TMI) hemmorhoids from pushing and those were uncomfortable for about two weeks after I gave birth. Haven't had any issues since, in that dept. One thing though....I've had gallstone issues ever since...little attacks off and on since her birth. Apparently this is fairly common...it sucks! I am exploring what I can do to get my gallbladder in good condition before TTC#2. I want to avoid having it removed, if at all possible.

    (8) Do you generally buy new or used clothes and toys for your LO?

Used...90% of the time...more so clothes than toys, but we do it with both.  She generally gets new things from family.

    (9) What questions would you like to see in upcoming check-ins?

TTCers:  Which cycle are you on?  Where in the cycle are you?  What, if anything, are you doing/trying for TTC success?

Not TTC but have starting charting CM to see if there might be a pattern to my fertility signs since I don't have PPAF yet due to BF.

  • (1) What week are you in/how old is your LO? Good Grief...9 weeks 2 days!

    (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?  Feeling alright, although I still feel like I haven't quite caught my breath.  I'm still struggling with settling into my role as a mother, while still being a wife and taking care of the home.  Hank is doing great!  He just had his 1st round of shots and is becoming more and more interactive every day.  He's trying to commando crawl.

    (3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?  Next appt is at 4 months in Feb for his 2nd round of shots.

    (4) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week?  I think H is in this hungry/tired cycle where he's too tired to eat, yet too hungry to sleep.  He's been a little fussy this week.  I wonder if it's residual effects of the vaccines?

    (5) Do you have a baby blog (link us up!)? LOL...a baby blog exists, but I haven't updated it since early in the 2nd tri.  I just don't think blogging is for me.  I find it overwhelming.  Stick out tongue  I think I'd be more diligent if more of our family lived on the mainland.

    (7) Did you have a C-section/vaginal birth? What was your recovery like?  I had an unplanned C/S after 20 hours of labor and 2 hours of pushing.  The surgery went smoothly.  I shivered uncontrollably while in the recovery room due to the meds.  The first night was rough.  I was exhausted, but couldn't rest because my IV machine kept beeping and nurses were in and out changing out my meds (I was on 3 antibiotics because I spiked a fever and had an infection during labor) and checking my vitals.  They tried to get me walking the evening of the c/s, but I was so weak and dizzy!  They took me off the IV and removed my catheter the following day.  Taking those first few steps and even going to the bathroom was rough!  They sent me home with Motrin and Tylenol w/codeine.  The Percocet made me dizzy.  I had no complications with my incision, but was in pain for a few weeks and was so paranoid about my incision opening up.  My OB used internal stitches and Dermabond...no staples or visible stitches.  I think my incision is about 4-5 inches long.

Even now at 9+ weeks pp, I still feel a little tight when I stretch a certain way and I still have numbness around my incision (not sure that will ever go away).  For a few weeks in the beginning, it felt like I had a huge bruise on my entire abdomen, due to the muscle and skin stretching.  It was the strangest feeling.  My skin was super-sensitive to the touch, yet numb at the same time.  It's difficult to explain.  While a c/s was not my first choice, I know that a vaginal birth is no walk in the park.  I was a bit relieved about not having to worry about tearing or hemorrhoids or swelling.  The odds of my needing a c/s with future children is quite high.  Based on my experience this time around, the thought of future c/s doesn't really scare me.

    (8) Do you generally buy new or used clothes and toys for your LO?  We have a lot of used clothes in larger sizes, which Hank hasn't used yet.   We only have a few toys, all of which are new.

    (9) What questions would you like to see in upcoming check-ins?  I know I have some, but just can't think of them right now.

  • (1) What week are you in/how old is your LO?

she is about 13.5 months old

    (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?

i got the cold that Miss A got from Santa :( luckily it's not too horrible and not ruining my holiday. just a sore throat and then the sniffles now

she is now consistently signing "more" and "all done" for us - but it's funny b/c she is also saying the words at the same time so really there isn't much need to sign the word(s) but it's still cute :)

i also taught her to use a cloth and she'll wipe her nose or blow her nose on command :) helps when she has a runny/stuffy nose!

not a "milestone" but she pooped for the 1st time in public toilet LOL we were eating dinner at Roy's when she started to make a poo face so i took her into the restroom and she pooped! (i have a travel toilet seat)

    (3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?

    15 months - shots

    (4) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week?

traveling with a toddler. she was pretty good on the flight but was soooo interested in everything around her that she wouldn't go to sleep even though she was soooooooo tired. eventually she started to get cranky so i nursed her and she fell asleep for 30 min before the captain came on the loud speaker announcing our descent...

    (5) Do you have a baby blog (link us up!)?

    nope

    (6) What do you do to make traveling with children easier?

toys, snacks, and trying to time it so we avoid nap time when possible.

    (7) Did you have a C-section/vaginal birth? What was your recovery like?

i had a c-section (after 2.5 hrs of pushing) and a very rough recovery. was on ibuprofen x 3 and vicodin for 6 weeks. could not get out of bed on my own for some time and had some pain going up/down stairs if i wasn't on my pain meds. that's the cliff notes version of my birth/recovery - if you want the full version LMK and i can email it :)

i think the reason why it was so hard was b/c i turned down the pain meds initially and if you don't get up and about right away it can be very hard. so next time i will gladly accept any and all pain meds right away :)

    (8) Do you generally buy new or used clothes and toys for your LO?

almost always used, I don't really see the point in buying new unless it's a super great deal.  we tend to get mostly used clothes and occasionally used toys but we seem to get those new more often than not b/c we get them as gifts.  we did get a used swing/bouncer and a hand me down exersaucer but all her other toys are new.

I still remember this - the shivering was awful!! seems we had similar c/s experiences as far as recovery.... I had staples but they removed them when I was discharged from the hospital and only had the steri-strips afterwards

i thought my numbness would never go away - my ob said it might not....but i think i had full sensation again after like 10 months or something??? crazy huh?

For me, I took all the meds offered to me, but I did not get up and get moving around when the told me too.  I had a pretty awful recovery, like Jaime.

Also, my incision felt numb for a long time afterwards as well, but it's ok now!
