Trying to Get Pregnant

intro post...just went off the pill

Hi, I'm Tiffany and just wanted to introduce myself and hope to get some questions answered or see if anyone has had a similar issue.  I went off the pill on november 18th and haven't gotten my period yet.  been on the pill more than 10 years, but before i went on it, i was always irregular.  being a teenager the last time i was not on the pill, i never really paid attention to when i got my period (was a late bloomer as far as being sexually active, so it didn't really matter....).

so i guess i'm wondering if i should just expect to be irregular like i was so many years ago when not taking the pill, and how that will impact TTC?

Re: intro post...just went off the pill

  • Yes, I was on the pill for 10 years too.  I went off last March and only had 3 AF all year.  I have heard it can take up to a year to get regular.  IMO if you are concerned call your DR (that's what I did).  Good Luck and welcome!!!  Hope your stay is short and sweet!

  • Welcome, Tiffany!

I think the rule of thumb is if no period or BFP for 60 days, call a doctor. That being said, I think it takes a while for some to "regulate" coming off of the pill, so maybe that's what you are experiencing.

I think maybe you left this part out of your post... have you taken a pregnancy test?

  • I was only on my pill for a year and my cycles are running around 50ish days.  It can take a while.  Best of luck.
  • welcome!

yes, it is normal.  If you get to 60 days without a period, I would call the dr.

    Good luck

  • It's really a roll of the dice. You might get your period soon and then become really regular, or it might take a while to even out. Best of luck to you!
  • didn't take a pregnancy test, mostly because i've assumed that my irregular periods have returned.  i suppose a pregnancy test would be a good place to start though...lol

     thanks for the info Smile

  • I was on the pill for about 8 years and like you, had irregular cycles prior to the pill.  While it does take some time to regulate after the pill, your "normal" might be irregular.  That's what happened with me.  Since coming off BCP, my cycles have been 59, 47, 73, and now I'm on CD 36.  All my hormones are normal, so it's going to come down to timing which is tough with cycles that are so up and down! I definitely recommend charting if you aren't already, and I think I'll start OPKs next cycle too if I'm not KU this cycle to help get the timing down.

Welcome!  As the other ladies said, it can take a while to regulate after coming of hormonal BC.  I would also take a pregnancy test, even if just to rule out that factor.

As for affecting TTC, since you were and may still be irregular when it comes to your cycles, I highly recommend charting.  A lot of us chart/temp using fertilityfriend.com.  It will help you determine if/when you ovulate.  You can click on my ticker to check it out.  Theres also a newbie link at the top of the board with a lot of helpful info.  And last, check out a book called Taking Charge of your Fertility.  Hope your stay here is short!  GL!

    This. Welcome and GL!

  • When I went off the generic Yaz last year, my periods skipped around for a few months as my body regulated itself.  It seems to be, from what I've read, pretty normal.  I recommend charting with Fertility Friend to get a better picture of your body.  You may not be irregular, but just unique. =)  GL and welcome!
