Holiday Traditions...

What holiday tradition do you want to pass on to your DC?

I think this has been asked before but with them quickly approaching I like to think about this kind of stuff. Smile

My mom had a little christmas tree just for me in my room that I could decorate anyway that I wanted to. To this day I love to fall asleep to the glow of christmas lights.

We always took cookies and baked goods to the neighbors.

We always did an angel tree child and it was fun to pick out presents for another child and my mom taught me to appreciate everything I have that way.

Re: Holiday Traditions...

  • Every year my brother and I picked out a christmas tree ornament. Then we always decorated the tree together. It was always fun looking at all the past ornaments and thinking back on what we were like back then.

Christmas Eve service at church. My mom always made wassail and we would drink it on the way.

  • I started xmas pj's with me and my husband and with my mom we did the xmas bears(with the date on the foot) and we would get a new ornament for the tree, of somthing we did that year!!! Ex. a sport we played, job we had, hobby we had.....ect.!
  • Picture with Santa every year from the time my sister was 3 months to 30 years

"Santa" always left our stocking and one present in our bedrooms. We would get uo and open those before we woke my parents up (it really just gave them a few more minutes to get up and about, but i loved the idea that santa had been in my room)

We each got a new christmas ornament every year- usually something related to our interests, hobbies or major life events of the past year- we get them on thanksgiving so we can use them on the tree that year.

We rotate opening presents - my sister opened one, i opened one, she did one, then me,etc. Mom liked that it made it last longer and you get to be the center of attn

Massive amounts of home made cookies, cakes, chocoloate covered pretzels, etc
  • My grandma always managed to sneak underwear in there. My grandpa would always trick us into getting really excited over the unopened present, then we would open it and find long johns.

You'd think we'd figured it out after enough years, but those bastards were good.

  • My family liked to drive around town and look at Christmas lights.  That is a tradition we do now that we are married and will continue when the kids come.

My family never decorated sugar cookies but my husband's did so we will keep up with that traiditon as well.

  • Decorating and baking cookies together. :)
Also opening gifts christmas morning together slowly and taking turns. It's not a dash to just open everything. I"m so looking forward to the holidays with my daughter next year.
  • We would get to open up one present on x-mas eve.  My mom would pick it out and bring it to us.  It was always pj's.  We eventually caught on and started asking for our pj's on x-mas eve.
