Trying to Get Pregnant

Those that have taken progesterone to start a new cycle

Did your temps rise and FF give you dotted CH's?  What were your s/e?  I have taken it before but this time my s/e are stronger.  I also don't know if I really O'd or if my high temps are from the progesterone.  The first high temp is my own and I started taking my progesterone that evening.

My s/e have been really strong.  I am taking the same meds and same dose.  I have had ridiculous hot flashes and nausea.  I just vomited (mostly water) too.  It is totally messing with my head.

Re: Those that have taken progesterone to start a new cycle

  • I didn't get CH from FF on progesterone, but I think because my temps were so erratic there wasn't a clear "shift" although my temps definitely stayed elevated while on progesterone.  when I took it before DD, I had no s/e from it; this time around it gave me diarhea until I started taking it w/ my dinner.

  • When I took Provera, my temp did raise slightly. I think if I had continued to temp the whole time, it would have given my CHs. I had very little s/e from the med. Have you called your OB/RE? I would ask what he/she thinks.

I finished my last pill last night.  I took it at night to help with the s/e but this time, it really didn't matter.

My temps are fairly erratic.  I am going to temp vaginally next time in case it is a mouth breathing issue.  Do you temp orally?

I haven't called.  I finished my last pill last night.  I am on a progesterone gel with next cycle so hopefully the s/e won't be so bad.

yes I temp orally.  my temps are very erratic on their own, but when I used clomid & ovulated, my temps were more typical.  I attribute my erratic temps to my erratic hormones.  once we got my body working regularly, the temps followed suite.

  • Yes- Provera will cause you to have higher temps- and will cause a fake O- in FF. The presence of progesterone in you body after a natural O- will cause your temps to rise. You can read about it in TCOYF. So it would stand to reason that fake progesterone would also cause a temperature rise.  It is the dropping of the progesterone in your body that causes the temperature drop just prior to AF too. Which is the same with Provera- you are keeping the amount of progesterone high to simulate the hormones present from the corpus luteum and when you stop taking the progesterone, it simulates the lack of implantation that would continue the pregnancy, your progesterone level drops, temp drops, and AF shows up.Does that make sense?

Yeah, it makes sense.  I know that it causes temp rises.  I have taken it before and stopped charting during it.  The only reason I didn't this time was due to the fact that the first high temp was with out the progesterone in my body.  I guess the only point to this post was some needed reassurance that I am normal.

Thank you for all your info/help.

  • Yeah- you are normal. I haven't charted with temps- even though I have all the supplies needed. I just don't sleep well, and so it was hard to start. I also am being monitored for IF, so I don't really NEED to chart, but I know I should. It would make my life easier being able to tell on my own if I O'ed prior to a Dr. appointment. But I also fear that I will see what I know I will see- no O on ANY level of Clomid. Ugh.
