New Year's Eve!

I am struggling on how I am going to get through New Years Eve with our friends. I am not very far along, I am not scheduled to go to the doctor for another two weeks, so we haven't told anyone yet. We aren't huge drinkers but we do normally go out with our friends on New Years Eve and have a few drinks. And I know they are going to expect me to drink. Does anyone have any tips to try to help me through this situation?

Re: New Year's Eve!

  • I told some friends I were on a new eating healthy diet that did not include alcohol because alcohol is so high with calories.

  • I'm in the same boat as you. I'm 6 weeks along and we just paid $175 for NYE tickets (it includes open bar until 2am) lol...so now i'm going to have to talk to the waiter ahead of time and let them know to make me non alcoholic drinks all evening so our friends don't catch on!

One drink I know is really good, it's cranberry juice with a splash of sprite...looks like a Vodka and Cranberry

  • If you felt comfortable telling them you were TTC, then that's a good excuse to be as healthy as possible and not drink.

there was a post a couple of days ago that gave some good options:

    1) tell them you haven't been feeling well and you're on some medicine that shouldn't be mixed with alcohol

    2) get 7up and Cranberry juice, it can pass for cran and vodka

    3) get a beer and a water, have DH help "discreetly" drink the beer and you drink the water or other non alcohol drink of choice.

Great suggestions. Someone also said to have your husband drink a beer in a glass bottle then rinse it and refill with apple juice or something.

The cranberry and 7-up works well too (and tastes great!).  The only thing I'm worried about is if people ask to taste your drink they would know. What do you tell them then?

  • When I was pregnant with DS I would just get a beer and carry it around with me.  Occasionally I'd go to the ladies room and dump some out a little at a time.  No one suspected anything.  For me when i see someone drinking water, or say they are taking meds I always suspect they are pregnant.

  • I guess it depends on what you usually drink. I usually drink Captain and Dt. So that is easy, you have your significant other buy you a dt. drink for cover up. If you are a beer drinker I guess I would do what Mrs.no6 said, dump some here and there. If anyone is suspicious they will find out the real truth soon enough.

  • I just went through the same  thing sorta...we just got back from a week long cruise with 28 of our friends and family that had no clue we were trying to get pregnant  (didnt know I was pregnant yet but didnt want to drink in case I was). Needless to say everyone kept trying to buy me drinks and I would always get the virgin pina coladas when they were not listening :) Worked like a charm because when we got back and I tested postive and told my sister in law she was like didnt you drink on the cruise. When I told her I was ordering virgin pina colades she was in total shock, she had no clue!

This!  I have even had my husband drink my beer, then fill it with water or something else.  If I didn't have a drink with our family/friends they would know something was up!  Even walking around with a beer bottle in your hand may be enough for people to not question you.
