Pregnant after a Loss

Lets talk tea please...

I'm not a big tea drinker so I've never really looked into any of the "rules" regarding the stuff during pregnancy.  However, tonight I was at an even that was freezing cold and I so badly wanted a warm drink to warm me up.  They had coffee I could have drank, but I wasn't really feelin coffee.  They had a hot water jug with hot chocolate packets that weren't appealing either.  But! Next to the hot cocoa packets was several different packets of tea.  For some reason, I wanted to dive into the tea.  I restrained myself because I thought, that maybe somewhere along the way, I remembered reading something about certain types of teas during pregnancy??  I wasn't sure.

I know, I know....it's another one of those things where the 'potentials' and 'possibilities' of 'what could happen' are so stupidly slim that pg women everywhere get worked up and worried about it and that, in itself, is more stress to the baby then the minute chance of something actually happening as a result of having the damn drink in the first place.  I know this.

...I decided to go with just some hot water an lemon anyway...also very tasty!

I think one glass of any type isn't going to harm you. There's caffeine to worry about, obviously, and from everything I've read that's the biggest concern. There are some teas, like red raspberry leave tea, that are controversial because some people believe that they can cause uterine contractions, but that has been disproved. However, many doctors/midwives/herbalists still advise against it in the 1st tri (despite the studies proving otherwise - even the American Pregnancy Association has said it's okay and even beneficial).  One glass of any tea, though, isn't going to hurt anything - you'd need a pretty significant amount of the worst of the worst to hurt the baby.

    This is a great article:

What she said.  lol.  I don't care for tea, so I've never bothered paying attention to the rules of tea.  Hot chocolate sounds good now though.. thanks!

  • I only drink ones that I know are ok with no.  If there are any herbs in the tea that I've never heard of I don't drink it.  One that I have found that is good is pepermint.

  • I stick with Roobois (Red Bush) teas - they naturally have no caffeine and are given as pregnancy tonics in Africa. My RE loves them and recommends them.

Starbucks has a yummy Roobois Vanilla Latte that I adore.
