working Moms please come in

I was supposed to go back to work today but we are snowed in yay!!

Anyway, what is your schedule for when you get home? I will be getting home at 5pm. My MIL will be watching the babies here so i won't have to worry about feeding right away unless their schedule calls for it (im hoping she sticks to my feeding schedule but you know old school MIL's!)

I have been trying to put the babies to bed around 8pm or so and still do a dreamfeed as i don't think they are ready to skip that yet.

What is your schedule like when you get home?

Thanks!

Re: working Moms please come in

  • For us it's a little different since we pick up at day care.

Usually the routine is - get to DC at about 5:30.  They normally get a 5pm bottle, so if they ate, great, we pack up and go and be on the road by 6pm.  If I get there a little early, I usually do the feeding there.  Either way, we hit the road by 6pm, the boys take a snooze in the car.

Get home around 6:30pm.... dh plays with them until about 7 while I set their room up for bedtime (getting out pajamas, make bedtime bottles, etc).  7pm first boy gets in the bath and I play with the other one.  7:15pm first boy out of bath, I take him and get him dressed and give a bedtime bottle and rock him to sleep.  Dh takes baby 2 andd gives him bath, bottle, pjs, and bed.

    Morning:

I wake up at 5:30 - make a ton of bottles.  Boys get woken up at 5:45.  dh does feeding until 6am.  Then I take over and he gets showered/dressed.  He comes back down and I go up to get showered dressed, on the road by 6:45.  Get to dc by 7:15, play until 8.  Be at work by 8:30.

It sounds a lot more hectic than it actually is.

  • we have a nanny, so no picking up at daycare. DH and I get home at 5:30. Feed the babies around 6-6:30pm, play with them for about a half an hour and put them down for the night. Then we have dinner, I put away all my pumped milk and wash pump parts/prepare for the next day. Relax/read/watch TV/bump for a half hour. Wake them at 8:30pm to eat again and then back to bed. DH and I are in bed by 9:30pm.

Luckily, with the nanny, I don't have much laundry and housework to do at night. She takes care of that day to day type stuff. It's so nice to be able to have that extra time at night!

  • Looking back on those days it still seems like all a blur.  I got home around 5:30 and the babies were usually napping.  They woke up and we did our last feed around 9 and put them down.  I usually took advantage of their nap times to set up for the evening - prepare bottles, fill the humidifier, etc so that I could have some quality time with them before they went to bed.  We did baths about 1/2 hour before their last bottle and did their bottles in their rooms to help them settle down for the evening.  They started sleeping through the night (9-6) at about 4 months and from 8-7 at about 6 months.

Goodluck and I am glad you got an extra day off.

  • I get home btwn 3:15-3:30, my girls go down for an hour nap at 3:30.  I usually get changed, clean or make something for dinner while they nap. When they get up we have cereal and play until about 5:45 and they they have their baths and we start our bedtime routine since they are down btwn 6:45-7pm.  I would love them to stay up a little later, but they get way too cranky if they stay up any later and don't sleep as well at night.
