tummy sleeping.

Am I bad that I am letting Nora nap on her tummy?  I NEVER let her do it in her crib or when I'm not right there but every time I put her down for tummy time.  She is completely passed out 10 minutes later and will nap FANTASTICALLY! Much better than on her back.

Is this a bad habit to start.  Like right now she is sleeping on her tummy on the chase part of our couch right next to me.

She just seems so much more comfortable.....Oh I can't wait until she's allowed to sleep like this at night!

  • Andrew slept on his tummy in the NICU so we let him nap this way.  He slept much much better b/c of his reflux.  We just checked on him!

  • I allowed our son to do it, as long as we were RIGHT there and watching carefully.  But, he didn't do it too much because he was in his swaddle a lot of the time or sitting in his swing. Usually if he was sleeping on his belly it was while he was on us.

We moved him to his crib at about 9 months and stopped using his swaddle. From that very day on, he has slept on his tummy each and every night in his crib. He doesn't sleep any other way. We have a baby monitor and I check it all the time, but since he is now just over 1 year...I think we are safe. But, a Mom can never stop worrying.

Sounds like you are going to have a natural tummy sleeper to. My advice is to just be smart about it and keep a close eye on her.

  • Maddy slept on her tummy in her crib from about week 2 forward.  Our pedi even wrote us a note for daycare so they would put her to sleep on her tummy for naps - otherwise she wouldn't nap.  She had reflux too, and it was the only way we could get her to sleep at all.
