Well, I'm lost

MIL's bedroom (they call it the guest room) is DISGUSTING. It is. There is shlt everywhere. The garage is half full. The kitchen has shlt all over the counter. The "office" is filling quickly and we're lost.

Hoarders has them on the back-burner because they're not "in crisis" and would only sell/rent the old house and the new house isn't to the extent where an intervention is needed. The city wont condemn the old house because there are no residents and they would be on some sort of list before they can go out there. Apparently our city is full of buildings needed to be condemned.

DH gave MIL a certificate saying he'd help her for a full day. 8 hrs of nothing but cleaning. She got pissed.

She also is very inconsiderate with her gifts. In front of BIL, she gave DH an ornament saying "My First Born: My Favorite". BIL looked so hurt. She also made sure to point out how much everything cost and she gave us all candy that was on an extreme sale because it's due to expire soon.

Wow, I can't believe she gave that ornament to your DH--whether in front of your BIL or not. I can't imagine having a "favorite" child.

Gosh I guess I need to not complain about my MIL b/c she is just a PITA!! I don't know how you handle her!! I can understand somewhat though - one of my good friend's mom is practically a hoarder. She has boxes and piles of papers in every room, covering every empty surface. They couldn't eat Christmas dinner in the dining room and barely managed it in the kitchen. It's a terrible thing to deal with.

According to MIL, she's not a hoarder because she doesn't keep animal or food stuff. Yeah...whatever.

It is bad. We don't really see them too often. If we do, we either go out (she hasn't cooked in at least 20 years) or we're there for 30min to an hour. Christmas was our longest visit at 3 hours.

OMG....that is crazy! Have they seriously contacted Hoarders?? I think it is so nice of you guys to even go over there. And the ornament? bizarre. get out of there, quick!
