When did you LO's go down to 1 nap a day? The past few days they have not napped in the afternoon. I don't know if they are ready to go down later in the morning which they seem to be ready and sleep well for me in the morning or if its just been our holiday craziness. But when I put the down in the afternoon they fight it long and hard. Just wondered when LO's turn a year when they go down to one, I know all babies are different.
Re: Dropping a nap
After 2 rounds of IVF & 2 rounds of FET, we were blessed with identical twin girls!
all 3 of my boys dropped their 1st nap around 15mos... that is when our daycare does it - and my boys loved both naps up until then.
the first few weeks with just one nap they were a little fussy - and some days I still gave them that first nap for a short time- but then they did great.
the busier I would keep them in the mroning the better - ie) getting out of the house, etc... if we were just home and playing they'd fuss more.
Mine dropped to 1 nap a day at around 14 months. It was a little rough at first trying to get them to a good time for afternoon nap. I would just keep them really busy during the morning, but not letting them be in the car, so they wouldn't fall asleep in the car.
The best advice I got was from Healthy Sleep Habits Happy Child, when you drop them to 1 nap a day you need to put them to bed earlier for at least a week or more. They need that extra night sleep to make up for the missing sleep during the day that their bodies are used to. I wasn't doing this and it caused them to wake up earlier than normal in the morning, like 6am instead of 8am. 6am wake up meant they couldn't make it to 11:30 for nap, so they would fall asleep at like 10:30am and sleep until 1pm and then not want to take another nap. It was a vicious cycle for the first week until I read that advice in HSHHC. Once I started putting them to bed earlier at 6:30pm instead of 8pm. They started sleeping better at night and longer in the morning until we were able to get back to 8am wake up and they were then able to get to 1pm before needing to nap. After that was established, I moved them back slowly to 8pm bedtime and the 1 nap a day started at 1pm lasting 2 1/2 to 3 hours.
Good luck.
