3rd Trimester

Prenatal massage in the 3rd tri

Has anyone had a massage in their 3rd tri?  Did it provide any relief?  Or should I save my spa gift card and get a massage after baby gets here?  I have a muscle in my back giving me trouble and my OB recommened a massage for relief - but I am worried the relief will only last a few hours!

  • I had one with DS in 3rd tri and it was wonderful! I plan to get one in a few weeks.

  • I had one and it was FANTASTIC.  The woman was incredible (had three kids herself so she could really relate to what parts needed the most attention) and she had this incredible pillow contraption that actually allowed me to go facedown.  When I saw it I didn't think it would work at all but it did and it was amazing- it took all the pressure of my belly- for 60 minutes, I didn't even feel pregnant!  Enjoy!
  • My insurance is allowing me to get prenatal massages, and it's about the most amazing thing ever.  Like pp said, I also got to lay on some seriously fabulous pillows, and could lay on my stomach.  Honestly, I kind of forgot I was pregnant.  It can only help so much, but it is a wonderful experience.  I'm going back tomorrow to have another!  Enjoy!

  • I went in for Spa day at 37weeks. I had a facial, pedi, mani and prenatal massage. I was so miserable during the massage. I have not been sick or nauseous this last trimester until I had that massage. I thought I was going to puke and had to have her stop twice to give me water and fruit. It was def something I wish I had done at 34 weeks or under. The pressure of the massage and heat of the bed and towels were just too much.

  • I go every other week & love it! Definitely helps my back!!!
  • I had one with DS and just booked one for this baby.  It's the best 1.5 hrs.  This place does the rose petal foot bath in the relaxation room to start, followed by 60 glorious minutes on the special bed to lay on your tummy.
  • I agree with the other posters... pregnancy massage is wonderful!  I got one at 34 weeks... she found tense muscles that I didn't know I had.  I was totally pain free for several days.  I'm thinking of going again soon.  It's nice to lay on a table face down.   Stick out tongue

  • I get massage regularly (I'm 30 weeks now) through my chiropractor's office, so insurance foots the bill.  They do it a bit differently, since it's just a regular massage table.  I lay on one side and hug a body pillow, then roll onto my back for about 15 minutes (which doesn't bother me) and then we do the other side, again with me using the body pillow.  It works really well, for me at least, and I credit the regular massages with having staved off a lot of the usual aches and pains associated with pregnancy.  Plus, since they know me and my pregnancy, the massage therapist can target the areas I need most.  My hips get really sore, for example, and sometimes my lower back, and she really works those areas.  I absolutely love it, and try to go every week when my schedule allows (in reality, it usually ends up being every 2nd or 3rd week, but I'm not complaining!)
