Bubbly, Convince me to keep my iPad (or anyone else)...

I got an iPad for Christmas. I really want to open it, but have somehow managed to hold off (due to a 10% restocking fee). I also want to keep it, but I'm not sure I will use/need it and can't justify the cost if that is the case.

I have a Nook. I have a MacBook. I have an Evo (which I think is pretty much just like an iphone). Is the iPad really just like a giant iPhone? I know I don't NEED it, but I do WANT it. Convince me I won't regret keeping it and will actually use it a lot...or do you think maybe I won't since I have all the other stuff I mentioned? My biggest thing is I think it's so much like my phone...if I didn't have this phone, I may feel otherwise.

What is sooo cool about it?

HELP!

Re: Bubbly, Convince me to keep my iPad (or anyone else)...

  • I'm a huge techie nerd and love all the newest and greatest and shiniest and coolest things. I think an iPad would be really cool. But, I couldnt justify it. I have a smartphone, which IMO is pretty comparable to an iPhone, and a computer and all that stuff. So I did a lot of research and decided that for what I really wanted, the new NookColor was a great option for me. I love it! It doesnt have all the apps (yet!) like the iPad, but I wanted it primarily for reading and web surfing and it fits the bill for me! And at half the price of the iPad, it makes it even more appealing ;)

My brother just got the Nook Color. I haven't seen it yet, but he told me he "rooted" it and it now gets all the Android apps and is like 1000x better. He said before this, it was some little platform from B&N, but now it's awesome. You may want to look into doing that!

I did a quick google and found this video on youtube. I am sure there are others, too:

  • I didn't need one either (I have a kindle, two week old laptop and iPhone 4) but I sure have enjoyed mine all day. I like it for reading much better than my kindle and plan to use a note taking app to scribble my notes during client appointments (I have to drag out my laptop and type them in now or write them down only to promptly lose them). Having a bigger interface makes it much easier to view and manage my calendar for the week and I'm a much faster typist than in my my small phone interface. I've committed to writing a private blog for ds that I convert to a printed book and it will be easier to bang something out daily on the iPad. I'm not sure anyone really NEEDS an iPad, but it's a very enjoyable toy.

  • I have an iPod touch already, which is very similar to the iPad, but I love the iPad so much more.

It's the perfect size.  I can carry it in my bag, the screen is perfect.  I love the apps.  (Especially the Kindle.)

    I just love it.

And it's pretty, and shiny, and I can get a really cute cover for it.

  • Also, I'm so obsessed with pandora that when I'm at home, my phone is almost always docked in my speakers rendering it useless for reading emails or surfing.

What cover are you getting? I'm torn between getting a very unattractive (but useful) otterbox (because I'm a klutz and I have a 3 year old) or a super cute and professional looking cover. I may get both but I'm not sure how much of a PITA it is to take in/out of otterbox.

Which cover are you going to get? Also, how much memory does yours have? I have the 16, I'm thinking/hoping I won't need more...? (IF I keep it that is Embarrassed ) Seriously, it is going to be next to impossible for me to not open it and play with it with it just sitting here staring at me.

  • I got the 16.  There's no way I can use that, much less something bigger.

I'm toying with the idea of making my own cover.  I've got some really cute quilting cotton, and batting/padding.  If I buy it, I'm not sure which one I'll buy.  I saw some really cute ones on Etsy.

I was just going to tell you to bust out some of that designer fabric...there are tutorials all over the web for tablet covers.  :)

  • I kind of like this one, but I wonder if I'd get sick of it:

  • If you don't want it, you can send it to me!  I've been talking myself out of buying one for ages.  I might just breakdown and buy it for myself.  I mean, it's a business write-off, right?  I think I can use it for contracts and to take notes at meetings.  I also know people who use theirs to show off their portfolio...  Yup, I must get one.  DH says they're coming out with a new one soon so this one will be cheaper, but not sure I can wait.

I know! I've been seriously contemplating rooting it since before I even got it! I want to google a bit and see if there is one particular way that is most user friendly and least likely to brick it.

I googled. =) I can't find instructions though, just people showing them off. I love how it looks with the android market - I now need to do it!

  • I love mine!  Its great to play games on (DS loves to play Pictureka on it) and its so lightweight.  I can't seem to post anything on TB with it (but FB I can post no problems).

I did get mine for free (company gift).  I'm not sure I would ever spend the money on it right now.  But I know DH wants one for when he starts his residency.

You have to turn off JavaScript (by going to settings- safari- JavaScript) to post on the bump. Then you'll probably need to reenable for other web surfing. It's a pain to toggle off/on but I do it anyway. You won't be able to have paragraphs on your bump posts, but you will at least be able to post.

  • We've had ours since May and I was just saying to DH that it was a great purchase.  We bought it before a trip in May.  I have an IPhone4 and we both have laptops.  I use it a lot for quick web surfing, email, to pull up recipes in the kitchen ect.  My kids (almost 3 and 5) use it everyday.  It may be an expensive toy for them but it's so easy for them to use.  I love reading books on it, we rent movies for DD on it a lot as well.  It's great to watch movies on.  I don't really care to answer a lot of emails or write with it much though.  Much easier to use a keyboard instead of a touch screen for that IMO.

  • Also, if you want to do paragraphs, just add this "

" where you want it (take out the question marks)

ETA: NM. It won't post. Justput a "p" between two carrots. (I think that's what they're called)
