Hi ladies! Merry Christmas and I hope everyone had a nice day. I have a quick question for those who have had a CVS. 1st off, my specialist recommends one just to "help with my anxiety" even though we lost our Emily at 20w2d to triploidy which is not at all genetic. My regular OB said it is a personal decision, but if it were him, he would want one. I'm nervous about the slight risk of miscarriage, but could not handle getting to the halfway mark and having something go wrong without warning again(like Emily). Anyone with CVS experience? Why did you have it done? What exactly could I expect if I do it? TIA

I had one done at 10wks because my NT Scan measurements gave me a 1:8 odds of Downs.
It was a quick procedure (and the only time DH got to see our girl on the u/s) and I didn't have any cramping at all. I was told to stay off my feet the next day, but I was fine to go back to work after that.
My Dr. was great and I would do it again. Plus, we got to find out that we were having a girl at 10wks.

I had an amnio at 16 weeks with this pregnancy. I was given the option of the CVS or the amnio. It was a really hard decision but I deceided to go with the amnio. Honestly it was the higher m/c risk that finally made my decision (after 4 losses I just couldn't stomach it). For the record, I was going to get a CVS with the pregnancy that turned into my 4th loss. The big pull for the CVS for me was allowing us to get more attached to the pregnancy sooner. It was very hard not waiting for the other foot to drop while waiting for the amnio.
Try paging JamieLee on PAL, she had a CVS with her daughter.
4 losses (cp Feb 28 09, mc April 9 09 (5w5d), mc Aug 10 09 (7w1d), d&c Apr 12 10 (grew to 6w3d, mc confirmed at 8w5d). RX: Overies PCOS (hormones normal) & Balanced Translocation of Ch. 7 & 13 (40-50% mc risk)

I had a CVS with this pregnancy due to the fact that our son passed away from a genetic disorder one month after he was born. I had an amnio with his, but his condition was so rare, that unless you are LOOKING for it specifically, you cant find it. So we opted to do the CVS so we could rule it out early. It was uncomfortable, but pretty quick. I stayed on the couch for two days straight (because I was very nervous about miscarriage) but I felt completely fine those days after. I personally was glad we did the CVS, since it put our minds to ease about the genetic condtion that could have been inherited. We chose to find out the sex of the baby ( a girl), though we are too nervous to actually use the knowledge by purchasing anything, or naming her. I would do the CVS all over again in I had to.
Good luck with your decision, and I hope you have a wonderful pregnancy!
I had one with my first pregnancy that confirmed trisomy 18. After having an NT scan this time around the perinatologist saw no areas of concern so opted not to have one this time. Hoping this is our healthy take home baby.
Good luck!
