Trying to Get Pregnant

Christmas Stories

Post your best Christmas/holiday story from this year!

Mine: We were at my aunt's house yesterday for Christmas dinner.  My uncle told us all to close our purses because their dogs have been known to explore (One ate a tampon and had to have surgery.).

Later in the day, my aunt MK got a headache and went upstairs. We were all watching TV, and we heard the dog getting into something.  My aunt S went to see what was happening, and the dog kept growling.  My husband said he saw some cardboard with a McDonald's logo and the word "apple" on it.  My aunt S said the dog got it out of my aunt MK's (the host's) purse.

Who keeps a McDonald's apple pie in her purse for hours on end, at her own house?!  My aunt S suggested it, and I said that sounded like something that someone in the looney bin would say.  But then my aunt MK came back downstairs from her nap and said, yes, in fact, she had not 1 but 2 apple pies in her purse!  I was dying for 15 minutes on that one, so bad my mascara ran.

What other fun stories do y'all have?

Re: Christmas Stories

  • DH's cousin called from several states away and she just gave birth to her second on the 22nd so we had her on speaker phone so we could all talk to her and then let her go rest. We were passing the phone around still b/c it was hard to hear her and when the phone got around to dh's grandma, she put the phone up to her ear to talk on speaker phone. It was beyond hilarious b/c she was talking into the phone still the whole time while we were all cracking up.

  • We had just finished eating dinner Me, MIL, SIL x 2, soon to be BIL and S-T-B BIL's mom were still sitting around the table. S-T-B BIL's mom was talking about how she had a shirt for her dog and the shirt was a little too long and hangs over the dogs butt. So she says "I'll just have to trim it and it will be fine" S-T-B BIL gets this weird look on his face and after a sec goes "the butt?Confused" HAHA All us women busted out laughing soooo hard and he turned all red when we said "no the shirt!"

  • MH and I both have dry skin/chapped lips in the winter, and I got him a little gift set of Burt's Bees stuff.  I didn't look too carefully at it when I bought it, but it was with a bunch of other sets that had the typical chapstick, lotion, hand salve, soap, etc.  The particular one I bought had a sign that said "Discontinued - 50% off", so of course that was the one I picked up.

What I didn't notice until DH opened it up and started looking at the actual things inside is that it was a Burt's Bees BABY gift set.  Baby oil, baby powder, diaper creme, children's toothpaste, etc.  He was going through it and was like "ummm...???" and just had this look on his face.  He knew I wasn't pregnant because he's mildly aware of where I am in my cycle, but he was definitely confused for a sec.

Too bad the baby set is discontinued, or I would have to get it for when I finally do get a BFP, haha!

  • Oh another fun story I just thought of.  Ok not a story, but major awkwardness.

One of my aunts isn't very well off but always means the best with her gifts.  We usually get VHS tapes and fake flower arrangements.  All in the best of intentions.  But this year, she pulled a doozy - she regifted all of the hand knit washcloths my mom made a couple years ago.  I sh*t you not.  My uncle/aunt opened their gift, and it was the white/pink ones.  My mom/dad opened their gift, and it was the red/green/white (Xmas colors).  I opened our gift, and it was the pink ones.  My mom nearly flipped a gasket!  I still can't believe my aunt did that.

  • I had a great Christmas.

The only thing that sticks out to me is when my husband's grandmother advised that she had a dream that I would announce my pregnancy at Christmas.

She never harrasses or asks and is a sweet lady, so I didn't get offended, but now that makes two people in the family that have had BFP and pregnancy dreams, and we have not told anyone in real life.

I hope that it means something other than the fact that they want it so bad they are fantasizing about a little one!  Embarrassed

  • only one story this year. my step mom's brother hasn't been to christmas in years as there was a falling out. finally this year he came with his partner. anyways we were at breakfast and my step mom's mother asked if we could pass the fruit salad then she stopped and said i guess thats innapropriate to say in this company. if she hadn't said that everything would have been fine but another fight started and hes no longer talking to anybody again. we were so close to having a good family christmas. i love how as people age they loose thier internal filter and decide nothing is off limits
  • My mom decided to wrap all of our gifts in this really pretty wrapping paper that had glitter on it. Now, I'm sure that you all received at least one Christmas card this year that was decorated with glitter, and I'm sure that after reading said card, you had glitter all over the place. Imagine that on a much bigger scale. Some of our presents came in pretty big boxes that required quite a lot of (glitter covered) wrapping paper. I can't even begin to tell you how messy it has been. It was all over us, the carpet, my poor dogs...I'm sure that we'll be sucking glitter out of the carpet forever. Thanks mom.
  • Haha!  Not one, but two awesome stories Rein!

I have no good stories.  Pretty boring this year, nice and drama free for once!  I stayed home with DH's family, it's always much more relaxing than travelling to visit my drama-filled family :-)

  • We took our bulldog over to grandmas house for christmas lunch. She invited him up to sit with her on the recliner, and he did. Then he proceeded to hump her. Twice. We were DYING. At least grandma laughed with us. That's what she gets for giving him more treats when we told her not to give him any more!

I definitely recommend keeping the set. If you don't get a BFP son you can gift it to someone. It's an awesome set.
