Those with two story houses and no play room

What do you do with the toys? I have two canvas toy bins that hold most of her stuff, and they fit nicely under each of the side tables in the living room, however, after yesterday the size of the toys have increased and I have no clue what I am going to do. I have an organizer in her room, but her room is upstairs so it is basically useless because she always plays in the living room. Tell me I am not the only one dealing with this toy issue?

I'm doing what you're doing right now. I just have a plastic bucket that I put the toys in. I have no clue what I'm going to do with the big toys.

We have 2 giant rubbermaid bins stacked under the christmas tree right now, as well as 2 storage ottomons that her toys are in... After yesterday, I need to reorganize it all.

We also have a plastic bin downstairs to hold his toys. In his bedroom there is a toy chest and a small laundry basket that holds toys too. We are always looking for ways to save on space

I agree that the thing to do is rotate them. Stick with the system that it working in the living room with the toys she uses most. Put the others in either plastic tubs in a closet downstairs or in her room. As the toys that are downstairs get boring you can switch them with the toys in the closet.

Also, we have some bookshelves that we keep bins of toys on. Maybe that would work?

We have a quad, so we have 3 living levels and a basement and toys are an issue. We resolved to have most toys in a toy chest in the corner of the family room (lower level) and a small basket in the living room. We also have larger toys and toys for when he's older in the basement; we have to monitor him down there since there are a lot of unbaby proofed parts down there.

I'm hoping the house we get next year has a playroom.

Yeah we keep all the toys stored in their rooms and then rotate them in the living room everyday. It is a pain but not much else I can do, until we afford a bigger house.

Now that Christmas is over, DS is the proud new owner of three ride-on toys. *sigh* I put one on the garage to be used outside in the summer. One I'm keeping in the living room and the other one is in his room.

I store most of his toys in a small laundry basket and one of those padded leather storage benches in my living room. There's another laundry basket in my mud room where I keep toys to "rotate out" with the ones in the living room.

The way the lower level is laid out we have the kitchen, living room, dining room, and a "room" where the fireplace is. Aside from the kitchen the other rooms are open and connected to each other. Since the dining and living are the largest rooms we moved the dining table into the room where the fireplace is so DD gets what was formerly the dining room. We have two bins for her small toys and she has her play kitchen and two standing musical toys. All the toys she got for her birthday (she only got clothes for Christmas) were not taken out. We still have about 5 unopened toys behind the dining table, most labeled as 18 mos +. About once a month I'll take out a new toy to introduce and put away an old toy. Like the others said, just invest in good bins to put old, unused toys that you can rotate out.

We have storagepalooza bins and stacking bookshelf from Land of Nod in our living room. It looks nice with our other furniture and I am trying to limit her downstairs toys to that with the exception of her kitchen and activity cube.

The rest of her toys are upstairs in her room (including her new ride on that I do not want her riding through our living area) and we also still have a lot of unopened toys in storage that I will eventually rotate in.

Today I went through and got rid of all the baby-ish toys! It made a huge difference.

I cleared out our dining room and turned it into a playroom. It's open to the living room so we can keep an eye on him and we weren't using it anyway. Luckily I have a small keeping room towards the back of the house that wasn't really being used either and the dining room stuff fit in there. It's kind of tacky since the dining room is the first room you see when you come in the front door but we rarely have people over anyway. It's soooo much better having an organized space for all the toys.

We have half of his toys in the living room and half in his "room". When it gets warmer we'll be turning the garage into a playroom. We are just renting right now so it's a temporary solution.
