Pregnant after a Loss

BFP after a chemical pregnancy..

I had a chemical pregnancy back in October, and on Christmas Eve I got another BFP.. I'm nervous about having another cp and I am going to call my dr tomorrow, but do u know if there is anything I should be doing differently this time? My dr didn't mention anything last time. I definitely already have some symptoms of what it was like when I was pg with my other 2, but can't remember-are mild period type cramps normal at this stage? I'm nervous about having another cp.. Thanks for any insight you can give!

Re: BFP after a chemical pregnancy..

  • Congrats!!

Don't think that you did anything wrong to cause your c/p the first time.  A loss that occurs that early is almost always out of your control.

Cramps are definitely normal.  I've been having some twinges off and on since before I got my BFP and they're pretty similar to AF cramps.  As long as they're not constant, sharp or shooting, or accompanied by blood you should be totally fine.  Just your body getting ready and making room for baby.

  • Congrats and welcome! I don't know much about CPs, but I do know it's normal for early pg symptoms to be a lot like AF symptoms.

This.  My doc says mild cramps are OK.  Intense cramps combined with spotting are bad.  Congrats!

  • Congratulations!  My understanding is there is that a CP just happens.  You could not have prevented it, or "saved" it.

  • Congratulations! And I'm sorry about your loss. I agree with pp - do not think for a second that you caused the CP. Unfortunately, there isn't anything you can do to prevent it. It's just something that happens. Hope you have a h&h 9 months!

  • Thank you everyone! I DO know I couldn't have prevented it, but I have a friend who had a m/c and her doctor told her to take baby aspirin and progesterone next time but maybe since mine was so early, ( 5 weeks, 4days)it is different..I was just wondering about stuff like that..

  • Congrats!

::points to siggy:: I had a BFP the cycle after my CP and now I'm getting close to meeting this little one. It's scary. Being pregnant after any loss after any loss is scary, but a CP makes it so hard to believe that those 2 lines mean anything this time. I had some period like cramps at the beginning of all of my pregnancies and each time, my OB reminded me that they were normal in ANY pregnancy.

    H&H9 and GL!

I had a c/p on Oct 4, and conceived this PG on Oct 24. I'm under a RE's care anyway, so betas are part of the mainstay,

C/Ps aren't caused by anything you did, so you won't need to do anything "different" this time.

Cramps are normal.  still get period cramps (at 11 weeks), but they are much less frequent than they were a month ago.

Cramps and bleeding should be looked at by your dr.
