Where is your convertible car seat installed?

Do you have your convertible car seat in the middle rear facing?  behind the passenger seat rear facing?  in the middle forward facing?

Re: Where is your convertible car seat installed?

  • Ours is in the middle rear facing in both cars.  In MILs car it is behind the driver seats rear facing because of the latch system (DHs car and mine don't have it).

  • Ours is RF in the rear passenger seat.  DH can't put the driver's seat back if we have it in the middle like we want it.
  • Front facing in the middle..we have side air bags.
  • middle rear facing- not using LATCH.

  • In both cars we have it in the middle, rear-facing.

  • Rear facing in the passenger side. My car or seat doesn't allow latch in the middle.

  • usually in the middle, forward facing.  We moved it to the passenger side so she can watch her DVDs on long car trips.  I'll move it back to the middle soon.

  • Mine is in the middle rear facing....is there something wrong with using the latch in the middle???  Seems like  no one who has theirs in the middle are using latch. Is there a reason?

The latches are only on either side so if you use it in the middle then you are using the inside latch from either side so they say it's not as safe for some reason. If I had LATCH in my car I would still do it and use the seat belt as well. I don't really see why it wouldn't be safe. Personally I have DD's carseat RF in the middle.

  • Some cars don't have the LATCH system in the middle.  If your car does then it's fine to use it.

DD carseat is on the driver's side rear facing.  We have an SUV with a 3rd row that is accessed by pulling up the back passenger seat that's why we don't have it in the middle.  I plan on keeping DD rear facing as long as possible.  Her car seat is rear facing up to 35 lbs & she is tiny (about 21 lbs) so it will be a while before she is forward facing.

  • DD's is rear-facing on the driver's side.  We can't safely have it in the middle because of a fold down armrest.  I read once that driver's instinctively protect themselves and their side of the car so I put DD on my side.
  • Our Britax Marathon is in the middle, forward facing.  DD is pretty tall for her age and her legs were getting too cramped rear facing so we turned it around at 1 year.  We have the LATCH system but instead have it in the middle using the seatbelt since the middle is safest.  We have the same carseat set up the same way in MIL's car.

Some seats or cars allow latch in the middle. I believe the latch hooks have to be 11 inches or something. Read your manuals.

    Here's some info.

  • Ours is on the passenger side RF.  We can't use the middle since we have two carseats.  Also, our car is a 4 seater, so there isn't a seatbelt in the middle, so the kids have always ridden on the sides.

  • Behind passenger seat, RF. This is only 4 winter it's usually in middle, RF. I need the room in backseat so I can be sitting in car while putting DD in carseat. She doesn't wear shoes or winter jacket in car, so I need extra room to dress and undress DD in backseat.
  • In our van she is RFing behind the driver's seat. In DH's car she's RFing in the middle (our car has LATCH in the middle).

    1. Why would you purposely do something that is not recommended per your car's manual?

    2. You should use the seat belt OR the Latch system- not both.

As for us, we have DS's seat RF in my car in the L rear seat, and RF in DH's car in the middle. It didn't fit as snugly in the middle so we put it on the psgr side.

  • Rear facing driver side with latch.

He doesn't wear a thick jacket in the carseat cause it isn't safe so I keep a pile of blankets in the middle seat.  He fights to get into his seat so having him behind me makes it alot easier to get him in.  He will be rear facing for another year at least since rear facing is safest, even if their legs touch the seatback.

Check your car manual before using latch in the middle, most cars don't allow center latch.  Also never use seatbelt and latch since it is unsafe.
