Hello Everyone,
I thought I'd give an introduction, as the events over the last 2 days have lead to my pregnancy being considered high risk. As I'm sure is the case with everyone on this board, this is not a board I was hoping to be frequenting! However, we all work with what we are dealt and in the end hopefully our situations eventually lead to a favorable outcome. Here's the shortened (although) still long-winded version of my story.
Early Monday morning I went to the ER for kidney stones and was admitted due to dehydration. Fortunately, I began feeling much better and was released on Tuesday afternoon. Upon being discharged, DH and I had an appointment for the anatomy scan. It was determined that our baby girl is growing wonderfully (weighs in at 11 ounces) and no abnormalities were noted on the scan. However, I was found to have a shortened cervix (2.5) and upon examination it was determined that I had dilated to one centimeter, and thus diagnosed with an incompetent cervix. Upon these findings, I was sent back to the hospital and readmitted for emergency placement of a cervical cerclage. According to the surgeon, the procedure was textbook and as of yet, I have not experienced any complications. So now the waiting game begins...... I wish everyone on this board the best of luck and my thoughts and prayers are for each one of you to come as close to term as possible:)
Re: Introduction: incompetent cervix/dilated 1 cm/emergency placement of cervical cerclage
Hey, that is great that this was found out that early. Unfortunately, in my case (almost three years ago) my findings were too late. I almost wish that it became routine to check women frequently as they approach 18 weeks for cervical insufficiency.
Keep us updated!
Thanks for the replies:) I'm a little behind with the holidays and I also had to go back to L&D last night due to severe back pains and vomiting (not how I was planning on spending X-mas evening). Despite the craziness, our baby girl is doing well and the cerclage is still in place and doing it's job. My amniotic fluid also looks good. It was determined that I had an infection, so I'll be taking a round of antibiotics.
Even though this is not how I envisioned my pregnancy, I am extremely thankful that the problem was detected very early. We are optimistic and I'm grateful that my LO is able to constantly reassure me of her strength with her frequent kicks!
Hope everyone had a wonderful holiday and here's to a safe delivery for us all in 2011!
