Dh got me a Nook Color for Christmas. I had been wishing for a nook but didn't expect him to spend as much on the color version. That said, I really like the idea that I can put kids books on it (I certainly wouldn't stop buying real books but we travel back and forth between our families a lot and it would be nice to not have to take so many books along with us for our book worm kids or to have some loaded up for long waits at ped offices, etc), that I can get magazine subscriptions on it and that I can go online in color with it. I don't plan on just sitting around surfing with it since I primarily wanted it for reading books but I'm certain I'd use the feature.
Now it turns out the one I got is malfunctioning and we're going to have to take it back tomorrow. Well I just found out that it's always back lit unlike the standard nook (and other ereaders) that are not and look more like reading off an actual book page. This is more like reading off a computer screen. I'm not sure I like that since that's one of the things I liked about ereaders.
Soooooo now I'm torn. I don't know whether to just trade it in for a working nook color and all the fun that comes with that or to try to exchange it for a standard nook, saving us a hundred bucks in the process but losing the ability to upload kids books/ magazines/ etc.
What are you opinions because I'm at a loss right now?

Re: Clicky Poll - dilemma of the boo hoo poor you variety ;)
Well, you probably read my vote in my FB status but I'll elaborate here. lol I can't do extended periods on an LCD screen. My eyes get stressed easily just from computer work, but if I have to edit something on screen at work it's pure torture. The e-ink doesn't bother my eyes a bit though. I read for 2hrs last night and it really is just like reading paper.
You can also still do subscriptions & kids books on the regular Nook ... you just don't get color or the read aloud feature. I think it would be fine for more wordy magazines but if it' something heavy on the pictures probably not as fun.
I'm not great at making decisions, either. I really want an e-reader and actually was just looking at the Nook Color the other day. I loooove the way it looks and the functions it has, things it can do. I would love to be able to get mag subscriptions on it and also surf the web if I wanted.
However, idk how I'd feel about the whole backlight thing. I've never used e-readers, so idk how important something like that would be to me. Can't you just buy one of each? Kidding, kidding!
How much did it bother you the little bit of time you did use the Nook Color? Did it bug you at all, or no?

Considering the ipad starts at twice the price of the nook color (which is already one of the more expensive ereaders out there), that's not really an option for us. Plus it's a lot bigger than what I want to read a book on. I really like the book size of the ereaders.
