black dots on vagina after childbirth?

I gave birth 5 weeks ago. All seemed good, just one tiny tear. I noticed maybe a week or two ago that I have 2 tiny flat, black dots on each side of my vagina, close to the opening. They don't hurt or anything. Didn't even notice until I held a mirror down there to see how I was starting to look.

I see the doctor next week for my 6 wk postpartum, but I'm worried. Of course everything I google just says cancer or STD. I feel healthy besides the regular recovery.

Anyone know if this is common after giving birth? Maybe a blood vessel or something.

  • Are they the stitches? Even if the tear was tiny, they might have stitched it, which could be what you're seeing. Or little blood vessels that are at the skin's surface, from the pushing.

  • I don't think they are the stitches. I thought they would disolve by now. But, the dots are on each side and I know I just had a tear on the one. I'm hoping it's little blood vessels. I just waiting the week to see the doc. Makes me so nervous!
  • They're probably varicose veins. I had some before being pregnant, just purple-black dots. Now mine are actually popping out and they're painful. Yay, fast labor....

I still had stitches not dissolved 7 weeks pp and the dr had to clip them out.  I'm also betting it's just blood vessels.
