So it's a little late but here it is!
Our little Kitten decided to make an early entrance into the world on
December 7th, 2010 at 32 weeks gestation. She weighed 3lbs. 6oz. and was
16 1/2 inches long.
On Saturday December 4th around 1am my water
suddenly broke and we hurried to the hospital. Because we were so early
everyone thought that it would be best to try and have Sophie stay in
as long as possible. They weren't going to induce me but if I went into
labor they wouldn't stop it either.
Monday, December 6th we
decided to induce due to several heart decelerations from Sophie through
the night. It was clear that she just wasn't happy in there! They put
in an internal contraction monitor and started infusing fluids for her
to have some cushion. A short while later they started me on pitocin to
get contractions going. Around 2pm after a few hours of the pitocin, the
contractions started.
Around 8pm I was 3cm dilated, 80% effaced
and baby was at a -2 station. At that point I decided to get an
epideral. Several hours later I was checked and only at 4cm, 80% but the
baby was at a 0 station. We thought it would take awhile so most people
went home and I decided to take a nap. All of a suddon, around 1:15am I
woke up and told Jon that I HAD to push. Jon paged the nurse, who paged
my midwife and sure enough I was ready to go. I started pushing at
1:33am and little Sophie came into the world at 1:35am. She came out and
started SCREAMING... She was breathing just fine on her own and I got
to hold her for a minute and give her a kiss before they took her to the
NICU.
Update:
Sophie's doing great! She weighs 3lbs. 15oz. and the only thing left to come out is her feeding tube. She was on oxygen for only 4 days! She's breastfeeding and bottle feeding when I'm there and when I can't be there she's taking every other feed by bottle and the other feeds by feeding tube. She should be coming home in about 2 weeks and we can't wait!
Re: XP: Sophie's birth story and an update!
Runs in from 9-12
Congrats on your little girl, shes a doll! If you have any questions/concerns about your early arrival, the preemies board is fabulous...the women on there are extremely helpful and insightful, and were an absolute godsend when I had my 30 weeker back in March!
Wishing you a short and uneventful NICU stay!
