Babies: 0 - 3 Months

super sleepy/fussy and hand sucking!!!

he s usually in the witching hours at this time, but he s also super super fussy cause he s so tired.  He was so over stimulated from yesterday s festivities.  He kept eating/sucking his hands and so we gave him 3oz of formula... an hour later 2 oz.  He s still crying and sucking on his fists... could he still be hungry?  just tired? or is he teething (he s been drooling a ton)    .... HELP!

  • At this age fist sucking is a self soothing thing, its just something they go through, I can't keep DD's hands out of her mouth even if she has a full tummy.  He might be going through his 9 week growth spurt, that could be why he is fussy and wanting more food than normal.

  • Yup, overstimulated and he is self soothing. The 5 S's worked for us today. Swaddle, Side Lay, Swing, Shhh and Suck all at once, she was out like a light until I woke her up 3 hours later.

  • My LO sucks her fist too for "fun".  It is possible that your baby is hungry, but this is not necessarily the case.  My LO has days where she eats every 2 hours.  My baby bobs her head on my chest or shoulder when she wants to eat.  I am not sure if bottle fed babies do the same thing though.

This exactly. We can hear Abby smacking as she is attempting to suck her fist into her stomach lol.
