Before having Matt I had to drag DH into celebrating Christmas. Sure he liked getting presents but every year he asked if we HAD to get a tree and do we have to decorate etc? He really was a Grinch and every year I was saddened that he didn't share my love for tradition.
What difference an 18 month old makes!!
Now he is all about making Christmas special for Matt without me even asking him to. I had been piling up presents under the tree and DH asked if we could move them into our bedroom because Matt wouldn't have that surprise of all of the presents under the tree on Christmas morning otherwise. He also had me put out a plate of cookies and a glass of milk for Santa, we helped Matt hang his stocking, and finally DH read "Twas the Night Before Christmas" to Matt before putting him to bed!
It was a point of contention between us because my family always did the holidays up big and really made them special with many traditions while his parents were more laid back and really, Christmas was just another day even though they did celebrate it.
I am so happy that DH is embracing the holiday spirit and wants to make the day special for Matt.
Re: Surprised by DH
I'm so glad that your DH has found the joy and wonder in the holiday through being a father. I think being a parent changes you. There are things you do FOR your child that you may not have before.
Merry Christmas, Amy!

This bought happy tears to my eyes. Like Eboneezer Scrooge, he found his way. It just took a little angel to open his eyes. We now truly see Christmas through our child's eyes.
