Saw the coolest kid today :)

Was at  a cafe visiting with a friend, and a teen girl in a motorized wheelchair was sitting behind us. I could kinda hear her conversation with her buddy. It was really neat because she was texting and gossiping and she just seemed so cool and well-adjusted. It makes me happy to see kids like that-- I guess it just reminds me that, even  if DS ends up in a wheelchair or on crutches, he still will be awesome, have friends and do regular teen stuff. :)

  • That is great to see kids like that! What is your son's diagnosis?

  • We don't have one yet-- symptoms are hypotonia and epilepsy and "weird eye movements". ;) I had been feeling down lately, just worrying about how he will handle school and being a teen someday. It was like God sent me to see that kid today, just to let me know it will all be okay. :)

  • That is a great thing!  I ran into a colleague the other day and when I mentioned K's diagnosis, she said, "Oh!  My best friend's son has that!"  (Which is cool b/c he has a 1 in 100,000 diagnosis).  She went on to tell me that he's 16, totally normal (besides the daily meds, but we're cool with that).  It was so nice to hear a direct story of this normal kid, who is thriving, smart, doing well, despite a lifelong diagnosis.
