I am new and thought I would ask about my situation and get your thoughts.
My little boy has had a rash for quite some time and I put him disposables while he had the rash but it seems to keep coming. It really cleared up when I stopped dairy, soy and eggs from my diet and used proper cream(yeast) . And I put him back in his cloth diapers after I had bleached them. He was fine for a while and now its coming back...I am using creams and airing out and everything I know to do. But also he has some bumps on his legs more like a bite but I know its from the part of the diaper touching his legs. Is that normal to get irritation there?
Also what would you do??? I want to cloth diaper and hate to put him in disposables but want him rash free! The doctor is not concerned and says to just keep putting creams on it. It is frustrating when I want it gone and gone for good!!!
Also if I end up having to put him disposables, what would you recommend? I don't want to put him in pampers but maybe something more eco-friendly if there is such a thing!
Thank you so much for helping!
Re: Is there still hope for cloth diapering???
Have you tried stripping or switching detergent? It could be that the detergent you're using is irritating his skin. Or there might be an overabundance of detergent in the diapers currently and that would irritate his skin. First thing I'd do is strip and try some other detergent.
As for paper diapers... I like Earth's Best and 7th Gen. There are other brands that are good too. Pampers is the devil in my mind.
I did an extra wash with baking soda and rinse with vinegar (I normally rinse) I did try my home made detergent and it didn't seem to help. But maybe you are right..there could be build up that is irritating him. How often do you strip your diapers? Also what do you do to strip? I heard just baking soda and vinegar washes is one way???
Thank you for the diaper recommendations. I hate pampers big time! I just wonder where the cheapest I can find them around here... Is health stores better than Target ect?
Well I have prefolds with a Thisties cover and also a few different all in ones.
I do think his skin is pretty sensitive too.
The rash that has always been there is above him penis. The rash part on his legs just started a few days ago. Never happened before but it could be his covers.
He is diaper-less every time he is not sleeping or out of the house. I change him as often as I can!
How long do you go between changes? I'd try getting some fleece liners. Just cut fleece into rectangles and lay them in the prefolds. Super cheap and easy. I'd also get or make a fleece cover to try. The breathability is awesome for preventing rashes.
To strip I do a teensy squirt of blue dawn (the dish soap) in the washer then rinse, rinse, rinse until there are absolutely no more bubbles. I've only done it once or twice. One of those times was to clean some diapers I got second hand. The key is to use as little detergent as possible while still getting the diapers clean.
The cheapest place for diapers is Amazon. Join Amazon Mom then buy subscribe and save diapers. You'll save at least 30%. For the subscribe and save you can buy then immediately cancel so you don't keep getting them.
Well, I am not sure about the time on changes but he is never in a diaper longer than 2 hours unless he is asleep for longer. So he sleeps for an 1.5 hours and I take his diaper off for hour plus and feed and put him down ect ect ect. I could be a little more of a freak with changing it but before when he had his rash I would change it every 5 secs and it did nothing to improve. So I actually let it be on for a while to actually be used
I do have fleece liners! Thank you for the suggestion. And thanks for the info on stripping. I will strip this next wash.
Do you think I should put him in disposables for the time being? Or what do you think?
Thanks too for info on Amazon. I will check that out!
