CD Question

We tried using prefolds with Thirsties covers on our three week old.  The entire prefold got completely soaked; is this normal?  It was our first foray into cloth - we've been using disposables since she was born.

The Thirsties cover also made some red marks where it was too tight on her chubby little legs.  Should we be looking at going up to the next size, or is this not a good brand for chubby legs?

Re: CD Question

  • how frequently are you changing? At that age, with a good quality prefold, you should probably still change every 1.5 hours. Newborns are big pee-ers. Later, you could go to every 2 hours, longer in other types of diapers. The diaper would be wet, but shouldn't soak through to the cover too much.

I don't have experience with chubby babies, but you want it to fit snugly around the legs with no gaps. If the red marks don't go away in a few minutes then it is probably too small. Can you fasten it a bit more loosely at the waist, or will it gap there then?

    This exactly.

  • Thanks!  Yes, fastening more loosely up top would leave a gap.  We'll try the next size up.  Thanks for the great advice!!
