Baby Names

Faye/Mae?

I randomly tossed these name ideas out to my H fully expecting him to give them a quick veto, but he surprised me by really liking them.  Thoughts?

I think I prefer the Faye spelling, but could go either way with May/Mae.  My mom's middle name is Maye but I don't think I could saddle a kid with this spelling for their first name.

Also, we had planned to give our daughter the mn Dale, after my dad, but if we end up choosing a one-syllable fn, this won't happen.  If you dig either of these names, got a mn suggestion to go with it?

Re: Faye/Mae?

  • I like Faye alot more than Mae but it may be because I know a Faye and she is an amazing person (in her 40s).

    For mn I think many 2 or 3 sylllables names would work well with Faye depending on what your last name is

  • Faye = Yes

    Mae = Yes

    Maye = No

    It's hard to think of a middle name for these, because every time I've seen them actually used, they have actually been the middle name.

    My great-grandmother went by Mae. I never knew until a few months ago that it was her middle name (her first name was actually Cora).

    Sorry I'm not much help, but I think you are headed in the right direction!

  • I like Mae a lot! I don't like Faye at all.
  • I like them both. We're considering Fay as a MN, to honor DH's grandmother. And DD is Maeve, which is close to Mae in spelling. (Her middle name is longer, to balance the 1 syllable first name: Suzannah--to honor my mother.)
  • My middle name is Mae, a family name.  I love it now because it means a lot and it is not very common in my generation.  Though Mae is slightly old fashioned, I dislike Faye because it reminds me of an old lady.  And I had a grouchy teacher, Ms. Faye.  Good luck.
  • I prefer Mae to May/Maye.  I also prefer Mae over Faye.  I think my prejudice of Faye is simply because there's an old biddie at church named Faye Anne and I can't stand her, lol.

    There's a Mae Rebecca in my local LLL, although I don't think it goes.  My DD's MN is May (my maternal grandmother and DH's paternal grandmother both had the MN spelled "May").  We wanted to use it as a first name but couldn't come up with a middle name we both liked.

    Mae Lillian

    Mae Katherine

    Mae Caroline

    Mae Elizabeth

    I feel like it should be a longer name.  Just my 2 cents.  Love love Mae!

  • I really enjoy Faye, but prefer Mae as a mn.

  • I like Faye the most. Mae reminds me of my Grandma's old lady friends.
  • I love both, but I'd use Faye.

  • I really like Faye.  It's my sister's middle name, but she spells it without the e.  I think a 2-syllable middle name would sound nice.
