Can the babies flip?

My OB will not do a breech extraction nor will anyone else in the practice. I am currently 34 weeks pregnant with identical twins. A was vertex and B was breech as of yesterday. Is there still time for B to flip? Any safe tricks to get her to flip before delivery. Thanks.

Re: Can the babies flip?

  • Yes they can.  Both of mine were head down after about 20 weeks, but then randomly one day at 35 weeks they both flipped breech for several hours before flipping back to vertex.

I have no idea if there are any tips and tricks that actually work to turn them.

  • I think it's possible, but not likely. There just isn't much room in there anymore for them to move around, but it's not unheard of. My c-section was a breeze, so if you have to have one, I hope it is as easy as mine was!

  • My baby B continued to flip around until the day she was born.
  • My Dr said that after 32 weeks it becomes a bit tight for baby A to flip.  It's possible to flip but unlikely.  There is much more room for baby B at that point.

  • My Baby B flipped at least 5 times between breech and vertex between 31w and my induction at 37w6d. At 31w I actually switched to a different practice (at a different hospital) for a variety of reasons, a main one being wanting a doctor who was comfortable and experienced in breech extractions. I'm very glad I did because both babies were head-down going into my induction, but when the OB did a u/s after A came out, B was breech yet again. (We're not sure at what point he flipped; I'm guessing at some point after I got the epidural or I would've felt it, but he was way up in my rib cage. I think he was scared. ;)) If I had stayed at my old practice, this would have resulted in the dreaded "double whammy," but my wonderful OB just reached in and pulled him out, using his other hand to move the u/s wand to guide him! :)

Doing pelvic rocks seemed to help get the boys to both flip vertex in advance. I know the website www.spinningbabies.com has a bunch of tips.

    And yes, this too!
My Baby A's head was pretty much locked in by the end but it was much easier for B to move around. The first 3/4 of my pregnancy, I would say 90% of the movement I felt was from Baby A but by the end, most of it was Baby B simply because he had more room.

  • my breech baby flipped at 37 weeks.    I didn't do anything in particular, but I think going swimming might have helped.
  • I'm in the exact same boat where baby B is breech. There's a 20% chance that B will flip to vertex after A is delivered, so that's a start. I'm asking my doc at my appt Tuesday if he can recommend another doctor in town who is more "comfortable" with BE.?
