Eco-Friendly Family

My holiday confession.

Baby Bliss and I spent last week visiting my family. They went all out - huge tree, decorations everywhere, gifts, big dinner, etc. I'm all holidayed out. I wasn't going to do anything for Baby Bliss for the actual holiday. Tonight we're having beans and rice for dinner instead of a fancy x-mas eve thing.

Except my IL's just e-mailed me about how they are excited to see photos of Ds on Facebook for his first holiday. $#$^%##@$. I can't take that away from them! So I'm going to brave the terrifying world of Target on Christmas eve to get him one particular EF toy I hope they have and some wrapping paper. Yes, I said wrapping paper. They specifically mentioned how they would like photos or a video of him ripping wrapping paper off of a gift. I had a couple of small things overnighted from Amazon too. All those will go in pretty reusable bags.

My ILs are awesome people. I didn't think this whole no-holiday thing through. They are HUGE into Christmas. It would really make them sad if Ds didn't get to do something special tomorrow. So I'm doing it for them.

Re: My holiday confession.

  • That sounds like a good plan and I think that's really nice of you to do.

Our thinking was the same thing for C's birthday - it was just the 3 of us and low key, but we did a couple things (small cake etc) so we could take pictures of her for the family since they were all interested, and we didn't think they would appreciate us saying her special birthday activity was just the 3 of us hanging out spending time with her.

  • That is very nice of you. Did you happen to get any pic like that at your moms you could use? If it makes you feel any better I have to go to Target too when my dad gets here so I can help him buy gifts for the 4 grand kids. Fun:)
  • It was really sweet of you to do that for them. Plus, as much as you weren't expecting it I'm sure it will still be fun for you guys tomorrow. Enjoy!
  • That is really sweet of you to do for them, and I hope you all enjoy yourselves!

  • I didn't get a single pic when I visited my parents! I think my uncle did but he's notoriously slow with sending photos out. I figure Ds needs some new stuff anyway. I got him this super awesome wooden activity cube thing called a Zany Zoo. I also picked up quite a few books (which at this point are more for me than for him since I'm tired of reading the same books over and over again!). He also got a pair of pants and a baby toothbrush. Oh yeah, I'm that mom.

I went to Target and BRU. Both were astonishingly peaceful. There were no crowds, tons of staff members to help me find stuff, and no lines.
