Hospital stay (long post)

I'm not a big poster but I thought I would check in and see if any other mommies out there had a simlar experience...

On Monday morning, I started getting really sharps pains on the left side of my back (I was just sitting in a chair when it began). They were super painful and after a bit, I noticed that my belly was starting to tighten when they came. I went early to a scheduled OB appt and my doctor saw me right away. She thought it was a kidney stone and admitted me right away to the hospital. I ended up having contractions pretty much one right after the other the rest of the day. When we finally got them stopped, I had a bunch of tests done to determine the cause of my pain. Long story short, I had a super elevated white blood count but no fever or other sign of infection except the EXTREME pain on my left side. Tests were inconclusive for kidney stones and they finally just sent me home today with antibiotics, pain killers, and muscle relaxers. Every doctor had a different opinion about what was wrong and it has been a super frustrating 4 days! Fortunately, my LO is doing GREAT, weighs in at 6lbs already, and is thriving! Sorry this is so long but has anybody else had any similar experiences?

Re: Hospital stay (long post)

  • i don't understand why tests were inconclusive for kidney stones, were you given a strainer & just not able to "catch" any?? i've had 2 run-ins with stones, once i was able to strain it & bring it to the dr's for their review, the first time, i'd strained one but it looked totally different than my fathers (they're hereditary in my case) so i stupidly threw it out. when i described what i'd thrown out to the dr's he told me it sounded like a stone but without seeing it he couldn't be sure.

sorry for your hospital stay, hope it doesn't happen again until your lo is good & ready to come out!!

  • My friend had a c/s last year and was having a horrible recovery...ended up she had kidney stones and the doctors didn't catch it until her 6 wk. post-check up.  She kept telling them it felt different than her last c/s.

I guess keep listening to your body and hopefully it will get better.  Glad LO is well!

  • I was at l&d sunday with extreme mystery pain on the left side of my tummy and was also having contractions with it.  They were able to get the contractions stopped but never could figure out what the pain was from.  They were guessing that it could be the position of the baby.  It went away the next day.  Hope your feeling better soon!
