4 month wakeful?

Our twins are 4 months today!  After stalking the 3-6 message boards, I have read all about the 4 month wakeful period.  I thought for sure we would get by without an issue.  HA!  I was way wrong.

My DD who has been a great sleeper for the last couple weeks (sleeping 7:30-5:00am with minimal wakings and no feedings) has been waking up the last couple nights around 3am.  When she wakes, she acts wide awake - squealing with delight (and she's loud!), smiling when I check on her, and basically acting like she wants to be up for the day.  DS luckliy hasn't started that yet, but will wake up if she gets too loud.  So I don't want to continue to go in there to calm her down, yet I feel like I have to otherwise, DS will probably wake up.  And what I don't want is two babies ready to party at 3am.

Did your babies go through this "wakeful" period?  If so, what do you do to get them back on track with their sleeping?

TIA - and Merry Christmas!!

Re: 4 month wakeful?

  • We went through it and after a couple nights, I realized there was not much I could do about it.  Neither of them wanted to eat, they just wanted to be up so thats what I let them do- be up.  I would remove the awake baby from the nursery and put them in a pack n' play in another room and then desperately try to sleep while they squealed and laughed :)

The good thing about the 4 month wakeful is that it ends as quick as it starts.  For us, it was 7-10 days.    If your babies were sleeping good before this, its a matter of time before they go back to sleeping good again.

Good luck and hang in there!
