WWYD? Sick baby

DD 1 has had a cold for 3 days. On the first day she had a fever and congested with a runny nose. Now the baby (4 wks) is congested and you can hear phlem when she coughs and sneezes. She has a low grade temp 99.5 which I know the drs don't consider it a temp till 100.04. My question is, if she stays the same with no increase in temp would you call the pedi tomorrow? I was instructed to call him even in the middle of the night with a temp of 100.04 which I hope she doesn't get but because she's so young I'm wondering if I should ca tomorrow anyway. What do you think?

Re: WWYD? Sick baby

  • Do what you feel you need to do.  However even if she doesn't get a fever of 100.04 but if she will not eat or isn't having many wet or dirty diapers call.  Watch her soft spot if it sinks in it is a sign of dehydration any signs of dehydration call.

I think if it was me I would most likely call in the am unless she is a lot better or before it gets too late tonight .  This way the dr knows what is going on even if they tell you to stay home for now.  Also I'm sure it would make you feel better.

    Hope everyone feels better soon

  • I would call in the morning if the fever is not gone by then or earlier if it gets worse. I would try clearing the nose with saline drops/steam from the shower, etc and just feed often.

  • Thanks ladies. She's been nursing the same still and normal wet/dirty diapers. She sounds like she breathing well like her nostrils are open you can really hear the phlem when she sneezes and coughs. I'll call the pedi tomorrow. I wouldn't be so worried if she was older but with her only being 4 weeks I want the peace of mind.

These are my thoughts.  I'm sure if  DH wasn't on call and I asked him he would most likely say call just so your doctor knows what is going on.
