Babies: 6 - 9 Months

I'm getting into making baby food

I just made a month's worth of carrots, green beans, and bananas. It was so easy and CHEAP!! Even using the organic stuff is cheaper than buying jars.  I made DH wash up the stuff while I was filling the trays, so that was a help. Just had to share because I'm feeling good about it.  Big Smile

  • Isn't it great? I love making DD's food. It's easy and way cheaper which is a plus in my book!

  • I need to start that...  maybe after the holidays.  I've heard from many people that the savings is huge.

  • Wait until you can start mixing veggies and fruits and using recipies! I just made chicken with sweet potato and apples sauteed in onion with unsalted chicken stock and it smelled divine! I'm having so much fun!

  • I enjoy it too, I do run into problems though because the grocery stores in upstate NY do not always have a great variety of fruits and veggies so I still end up buying some jars of Earths Best brand foods.

  • Ah!  I'm so happy for you!!  I want to start doing this too!  After the holidays I think I'll buy a beaba.  What are you girls using for a blender and storage?
  • I have always wanted to make my own baby food. Are there any books/websites that one could recommend for a beginner?

I'm just using my plain 'ol blender and it works perfectly fine for pureeing her food. I use ice cube trays with lids that I got from bed, bath and beyond. I also bought a basket steamer so I could steam the foods I don't bake.

  • I use a baby cuisinart and baby cubes to store. I love them because they have an attached lid. I love the above website but I also bought 100 Top Baby Purees by Anabell Karmel which has some great recipies!

  • Right now, I'm just using a food processor and ice cube trays. Sometimes, I use the hand mixer too. A friend of mine, said when her baby was older she'd mix in feta and goat cheese, two of may faves! I think she said that was from the William Somoma cookbook, but that might be wrong...  Anyway, if you haven't done it yet, done be afraid. I'm not great at cooking, but this is easy and awesome!

  • I love making DD's food! We bought a few of Annabel Karmel's cookbook's and DD seems to love all the recipies. Here is a link to her website.

You really don't need the Beaba unless you just want a gadget. A group of us bought one for a friend and she liked it but said it wasn't necessary.

I bought a Cuisinart Immersion Blender and that has worked better than anything else. The blender would constantly get pockets of air if I was making anything thicker than water. (and it isn't a crap blender) The food processor is a lot of parts to clean up.

I bought the Annabel Karmel covered trays at BRU and love them. They are silicone and one ounce cubes.
