Christmas breakfast - just found out people will be here

Originally we were having Christmas brunch at our house - with people arriving around 10am...then it turned into lunch because some weren't arriving till 11...now I just found out my parents will be here around 9am (2 hour drive for them) so I feel like I need breakfast too.

What should I have? My mom is not big into breakfast food and my dad is easy. I saw the post with the egg/sausage bake that looked tasty but I'm 99% sure my mom won't eat it.  Should I just get the stuff for bagels and lox (that was my families traditional Christmas breakfast). WWYD?

  • I would do the bagels if you're making a big lunch too.  Otherwise I was going to say that I would just do a wide brunch variety of things you could keep warm in a crock pot, oven on warm, etc and then people could serve themselves when they arrive or are ready....and not worry about a seperate lunch.

That was my original plan, but then it turned into my IL's coming for "lunch" so I changed up my menu to have a real lunch rather than brunchy foods I had originally envisioned.

Oh, bagels and lox it is...

    Thanks!

  • I would have snacks / appetizers available before lunch. I would assume that they would eat breakfast before leaving their house. If you really think you need to offer breakfast, bagels and lox sounds fine. Muffins and fruit would be nice and easy, also.
  • I say have appetizers available if you're eating around 11. If you're eating later than do the bagels.  OR if you have a favorite coffee shop (Here it's Tim Hortons -or dunkin donuts- get some muffins or donuts just to have available for them to grab?

I am having some apps, but that's was to cover the 11am-ish period when DH's fam arrives, since I doubt they'll walk in and we'll sit down.

So bagels it is - I got the cream cheese/lox etc so I just have to grab 1/2 dozen bagels tomorrow.
