RP: Cloth training pants

I posted this on the SAHM board as well, but someone recommended I post here since you all are more likely to be more familiar with cloth trainers.

For those of you who skipped the pullups and went to cloth trainers, what kind did you buy?  I don't want to go the pullups route because it still seems like a diaper to me but feel like a moron when it comes to the others.  Thanks!

Re: RP: Cloth training pants

  • It depends what you're looking for. We use the Gerber ones because they are very thin and don't hold much, which helped DS realize they are not diapers and peeing in them would make him and the floor wet. Thicker training pants that hold more didn't work for us.

  • So do you put the plastic pant things over them then if you are going out somewhere while he still isn't totally trained?  I've seen so many different kinds from the gerber with the plastic pants, to ones that are like an aio cloth training pant that is leakproof.

  • Right now we are using the regular Gerber Training Pants (they run around $6 for 3 pair).  They are like a padded underwear.  He does not wear plastic pants over them.  He only wears them at home right now and when we go out, he wears an AIO cloth diaper (Bum Genius Organics).

  • We used a sidesnapping pocket diaper (Knickernappies OS) in place of pull ups for nighttime, naps, and outings so that I could customize absorbency.  We also used the gerber trainers at home once we got further along in the process. Blueberries makes a good trainer and I know there are some that are waterproof specifically for training but I don't have any brand recommendations.  I know there are a couple of hyena cart sellers that make great trainers as well but I haven't taken notice of store names so hopefully some others will chime in there.

I have also seen recommendations for these but I can't speak from personal experience:

  • I love the Blueberry trainers and use those when we go out.  At home, I either just use underwear or the Gerber padded ones.  I use a Happy Heiny trainer for nap / nighttime because it can be stuffed like a cloth diaper, but she can still pull them up and down by herself.
