Baby names you can't use

What baby name do you LOVE but can't really use for one reason or another?

I have always loved Andrew and Ryan. We went to school with an Andrew that I literally had nightmares about showing up to our wedding, and my husband has 5 friends named Ryan.

  • Gweneth, our last name ends with eth and it sounds so lispy. :(

  • Andy - it's my ex's name and I know my H would never go for it. I just like the name.

  • Jack and Luke.  Our LN starts with a hard "c" so you lose the ending of the FN when you say them together.
  • Marissa, because our last name starts with M and we didn't want double initials. That really stinks, cuz it's one of the very few girl names both DH and I like. Adrienne, Taryn, Natalia, Avery, and Cassandra, all because DH doesn't like them. Audrey or Audra, because my step-daughter's name is Aubrey.

Should we ever have a son, I love Dominic and Adam. Neither work with our last name. Dominic rhymes with it, and Adam M------ runs together too much. (Plus my DH's half-brother has a son named Adam. He has a different last name that flows much better!)

  • LOL.  Andrew & Ryan are two of my fave boys names.  Fortunately, I CAN use them.

I love the name Ben, but it doesn't go with our last name at all.  Mia is my favorite girl name, but DH hates it.

  • Gideon - our last name starts with a G.

Julian - I had a little firestarter in my class last year with that name.

  • Not that we're planning to have any more children...but if I were...

Gabriella--one of my fave girl names but my cousin named her daughter this so now I feel like I would be copying.

Ashby-love this as a girl or boy name, but it's the name of my ex-boyfriend from college.  :(

  • A lot of the boy names I like end with the letter "n" and sound weird with our last name.  So no Holden, Hudson, Truman, etc.  :(
  • Most names that end in an short "a" sound are out because of our last name ... a few work, but not many.  Cancels out a lot of great names!

That and Lucy.  Lucy, Lucia, Lucianna ... I absolutely love them all.  And DH hates them with a passion.

  • I had tons. They were all names of former hellion students. Brody, Nicholas, and Jeffrey in particular make my skin crawl and think of future psycho killers.

My kids are Kate and Ben! :)

I loved Georgia, but DH hated it.  For boys, I LOVE Thomas but loathe Tommy and Tom, and I know it would be shortened, so I didn't use it.

  • Weird. My DS is Ryan and if we have another boy he will be Andrew (Drew). So those are my favorite boy names too!

To answer your question, I cannot use Mallory or Lukas and I love both. They both sound terrible with my last name. I like Jonah and Reid for a boy too, but DH hates both. My favorite girl name is Corinne, but the most common nickname is Cori and even though I would resist it, if people called her that it would rhyme with my last name. Dang my last name ruining everything!

  • I really like the name Christian, but it is my ex's name.  And we were together for about 6 years and went through a lot of stuff (mostly bad) together.  So that is out!
  • Our last name ends with "er".  Having a first name like Conner, Tanner, Alexander, etc sounds really off.
  • Camilla, my BIL already named her DD Camilla, so it's a nono

Melissa, Lissa, anything that ends in sa. Last name starts with Za, so it would sounds weird.

  • I love the name Maya and Ayla but I cannot use them due to my husband not liking one of them and a friend's daughter being named the other.
  • Claire- I have had 2 close girlfriends within the last 6 months name their new daughters Claire.

Paige- doesn't sound right with our last name.

And I swear, dozens more because DH vetoes them all!!  He is SO picky!
