Parenting after 35

Insurance/Gyn Vent (NBR)

So I had my annual exam last December, because for some reason my OB wanted to see me 3 months after my 6 week postpartum exam. And I was due to have it again this week. But due to scheduling issues (no sitter and I can't leave Aaron in the stroller this time) I made it for next week.

Well... I'm a dummy because I'll be right in the middle of AF and no annual exam while she's visiting.  I try to make it the first week of Jan. but both the OBs I like (the one who I saw during my preg. and the one who delivered me) are booked. I really can't make the appt. until early Feb. now, because I'm moving the 3rd week of Jan.  And I'm almost out of BCPs.

I wish I could have gone LAST week but I had to wait a full 12 months due to my insurance. You can't go even 1 day earlier. It's stupid.  And I need a Rx for my mammogram, too.  I don't want to skip years now because my grandmother died of breast cancer (yeah at 92, but even so) and because I have lumpy breasts and want to make sure all is OK.  Especially since my right breast has been particularly hard (though no changes) since having Aaron. I want to make sure it's just dense tissue and not?G*d forbid?something else.

I'm even going to a better breast center (need to get my films) even though I've heard going to the same place is best, because I don't like where I went last year due to insurance.

So now I have to call and get more pills so I don't get pregnant and hopefully I'll be able to go to the doctor in February. Ugh.

And to add insult to injury, I'm having breakthrough bleeding this cycle and think AF will show up earlier and I've been crampy too.  I hate PMS.

Re: Insurance/Gyn Vent (NBR)

  • Insurance sucks.  I have to bill it every day and so many people get so surprised about what is not covered under their policy.

  • Crap.  I forgot I need to schedule my annual, too.  And just like your insurance, their reminder letter made it very clear that I could not come in before the 16th.  Ugh.

  • Hate insurance but one month probably won't make a difference. Which breast center are you going to? Last time I went to St. Barnabas which is supposedly so good but I didn't particularly like it.

  • I initially went to St. Clare's in Dover but my insurance wouldn't cover them last year and I went to the radiology center in Harding?but they don't have digital films and take old-fashioned mammos.  I was considering St. Barnabas (in plan) and my DH wants me to consider Sloan-Kettering out here (not in NYC).

I have to do some research. But I want the option for digital scans and breast u/s if the mammogram shows something (I had benign cysts at age 35, which is when I had my first mammogram).

Overall, I like St. Barnabas Hospital.  That's where Aaron had his Hydrocele surgery in July. Their pediatric staff was wonderful and my grandmother had her mastectomy there in 2009, when I was pregnant.
