Swelling in only one hand?

I have not had any issues thus far with swelling of my hands, in fact my rings still go on and off just as easily as they did before I got pregnant.

This morning I woke up and my right hand was so swollen I couldn't make a fist!  I couldn't get my ring off that I wear on that hand and my fingers were VERY puffy.  It has since returned to normal and the swelling is gone.  Is this normal or is this something I should be concerned about?

Re: Swelling in only one hand?

  • I've been having this happen to me over the last few days. It's normally just my right hand and it swells so bad I can't make a fist. It goes down within a couple of hours. I don't think it's anything to worry about since I'm plenty hydrated and my bp is good. I just think it's one of those things that happens in the 3rd tri. You could ask your doctor at your next appointment though if you're concerned.

  • Thanks - I see my doctor on Wednesday and plan on asking about it but was unsure if this required a call sooner than that.  I think the fact that it's gone back to normal makes me feel more comfortable to wait and ask.

  • Whoops, wrong response to the wrong post!  Good luck with your swelling issue, I would definitely chat with your OB about it.
