Diaper bag got stolen at XGates Commons WalMart (ALB)

I'm a lurker but I am so p!ssed and wanted to remind everyone to keep your eyes on your bags while shopping. I had my small diaper bag with me today and of course I keep my wallet in it, too. I had to switch carts because mine had a wheel that was stuck. I turned around to move DD2's carseat into the new cart, and went off on my way. About two minutes later I realized I didn't have the bag. Went back and it was gone. Nobody turned it in. When my husband called to cancel the credit card someone had already bought gas with it and then they tried to use it at Kmart after it was turned off. They looked through the film at the store but of course there was a big pillar blocking the camera's view of where the cart was. Now that they know someone used the card they are also checking film of the exits.

Overall, I am extremely thankful it was just my bag and not one of my girls. But it is such a disappointing fact of life that there are people out there who will do this. The security guy at Walmart said they have so many purses and wallets stolen at that place every day it is really hard to keep up with all of it, and most of the thieves know all the camera locations and angles and manage to hide themselves.

Wow this got longer than I expected. Anyway, I'm officially not a lurker here anymore I guess. Hello, everyone!

Well - I'm really sorry that you had to de-lurk this way...but welcome.

I hope they catch the a-holes. But you are right - they know the ins and outs. A co-worker left her purse on the passenger seat when she went to pick up her kids from school. Someone broke through the window with a paint can (spilling paint everywhere) and the card was used to buy over $600 worth of merch at Kmart less than 10 minutes later - they must have had the cart ready and everything. It majorly sucks.

Was Kmart able to pull it up at the register? That really sucks though. I am glad you realized it quick enough to get things cancelled. Hopefully your card reverses the one claim?

They will reverse the one expense, just have to fill out some paperwork. Now it is just the aggravation of getting everything replaced.

I'm so sorry. That totally sucks. I always am walking away from my cart and leaving my purse in it.. this is reminder that I need to be more careful. And actually a week or so ago, we left my purse in a cart at Old Navy when we left. We didn't realize it until we drove across the street and went to go into the mall.. Luckily it was exactly where I left it when I came back.

Thanks for the heads up- I am there all the time. My first thought was to have them check the cameras, but it totally sounds like the thieves have them outsmarted. I hope there is another camera they can check. That is scary, having it snatched in just a few moments.

A few years ago DH was parked at Xgates and someone smashed his car door so bad that he had to climb in the passenger side.. but in that case, they took their pretty time going through the tapes that it had been taped over (which sounds just like a bad excuse).

You would think at Walmart, if they have that problem all the time, they would do something!

I grocery shop at this Walmart every week. I spend so much less there than any of the local grocery storeds. I am so bummed. The security guy seems like an idiot. I reported to Albany police this morning and they are going to look through the tapes too. And, as soon as the credit card company can pinpoint which gas station they got gas at, we can look to see if that location has cameras too. The guy from walmart says they keep their tapes about a month or so.
