Is this common with potty training?

Justin couldn't care less now about using the potty.  He went from being really excited about it to wanting us to just change his diaper.  I guess it makes sense since we probably praised him a lot more in the beginning and it was all new to him. And getting the M&M's in the beginning was fun for him too.  We still do the M&M's but I don't think it's a big motivator anymore.  My question is.....do we try harder now to get him to use the potty or still take a relaxed approach?  I always said I wasn't going to rush or force it.

Re: Is this common with potty training?

  • I think it is pretty common.  Rosie was telling us she needed to go pee, was peeing on the potty, doing pretty well.  That lasted a few weeks, and then it was over.  It was probably my fault for not getting on the horse and putting underwear on her and going full force, but we had just moved into the new house, and I don't think I could have handled potty training on top of it.

But I know kids have regressions a lot.

  • Yep, we had to switch things up with Gavin.  He started with chocolate chips, but when that lost its appeal, we started a sticker chart.  I'd just keep trying things to keep him motivated. Good luck!
