Toddlers: 24 Months+

What kind/size of "big kid" bed is your LO in?

If they are already transitioned from the crib.....

Is it a toddler size or twin?

If a twin, is it just the mattress or a full bed with the base?  Do you use a rail??

We transitioned DS about 22 months to a twin mattress on floor--he loved it.  Did well.  A week or so ago we put the box spring under it to raise it up and he loved that even more----and we took the "rail" off as well----well, he started falling out---he's not high up or anything (it's all still on the floor) but still....so back on the rail went last night.  But made me wonder what others do.....

  • Griffin is in a toddler bed - mostly b/c we had one we got cheap from a friend... and it allowed us to continue using his Angelcare monitor- which was a GREAT help in the bed transition- he has never gotten out of his bed b/c he knows the alarm will go off- it's been great.

In March when he turns 4 we are re-doing his room and he'll get a twin bed.

The twins have cribs that turn into toddler beds- so when it's their time, they'll be in toddler beds, too, for a while.... i'm praying they are in the cribs for a LONG time. Griffin was a few months shy of 3 when we switched him b/c he started trying to climb INTO his crib.

  • Twin.  Mattress and box springs directly on the floor.  No rails.  Never had a problem with her getting up in the middle of the night or falling out.

  • DS is in a regular full-size bed. No rails. We transitioned from the crib to a toddler bed (convertible) in Feb when he was 25 months and then to the regular bed in Sept. He did great from the get-go.

  • Twin Bed.  We bought a bunk bed set because the boys are so close in age they wil eventually bunk together.  We only set up one of the beds but we used the rails for the top bunk to keep him enclosed.  There is only about 18" of space for him to get in and out of.  We transitioned him at 18 months so this worked perfectlty.  At this point, however, he sleeps in any bed without rails perfectly fine.

  • We moved my DD from the crib to a toddler bed.  She was in the toddler bed for about 6 months and then we bought her a full size frame and boxspring/mattress.  I have 2 side rails up since she is a roller.  She does well in the bed itself but it may be a couple years until I take the side rails down!

  • DD is in a toddler bed (no bed rail), we have no problems will her falling out of bed.  The boys transitioned straight to twin size beds on a frame, no box spring, with a bedrail and still managed to fall out of bed :)...

  • We transitioned him to a full sized bed. But he's actually not in a bed, he's just sleeping on the mattress on the floor. We decided to move him on a whim and hadn't bought his "big boy" furniture yet. We took the mattress off our full set in the guest room (antique furniture I don't want him to use) and just put the mattress on the floor. He did great with the transition and has never once gotten out of bed. After the holiday craziness settles down, I'm going to go furniture shopping. We'll either get a full or a queen because this will be the furniture he's going to keep for a LONG time.

  • DD is in a full. Her crib converted, so it's on that frame, no box spring. She doesn't use rails.

We tried putting her in the toddler bed, but it just seemed so small...and she kept rolling off. We haven't had any issues with her falling off the full-sized bed, but I do put her pillow on the side against the wall, and line her stuffed animals up between her and the free-fall edge side of the bed ;) She's all over the place when she sleeps though!

  • DD is in a twin bed on the box spring and frame with a railing on the side that is not against the wall. She hasn't fallen out yet and I don't plan to take the railing off any time soon! :)
