Two Under 2

If your 2u2 LO's are the same sex...

Were/are you able to use a lot of the same clothes?  My LO's will only be about 2 months apart and I know every child is different, but my DS is very small for his age and I'm wondering if the appropriate season clothes will fit the new LO.

In theory, I'm thrilled to be able to reuse DS's old clothes, but I'm wondering if this will actually be the case or not.

Re: If your 2u2 LO's are the same sex...

  • My two oldest are boys and DS2 wears all of DS1's clothes and he doesn't care a bit.  I think the girls might care when they get older, but they obviously are to young to care right now, and it works for me!  My two boys weren't "on season" I had one sept, and one May so I bought some long sleeve onsies and put them under t-shirts.... instant long sleeve shirt :) I am also really good about getting stains out, I used to get hand me downs when I was little and I didn't mind as long as they didn't look "used" GL!

  • thankfully yes. alex was born in sep & brynn is a dec baby- but everything seems to be fitting very well.
  • For my boys even though they are 4 months apart, they can pretty much share clothes. I have DS2 wearing things that DS1 wore last winter. They are a little big on him, but we can roll sleeves and pants. DS2 is bigger than DS1 was at his age...so I think pretty soon they will be in the same size.

But to answer your question, yes we were able to reuse a lot of our clothes.

  • No, at least not until I got to size 2T. My girls are 18 months apart and different seasons AND grew at the same rate........I bought 2 separate wardrobes.

My friend has 2 girls who were born in the same exact month and could NOT use clothing from her first because her 2nd grew at a much faster rate.

You just don't know what's going to happen.

  • I have June and August babies, so 2 months apart. We have been able to reuse pretty much all of DS1's clothes for DS2. It is awesome! DS2 has the biggest wardrobe ever because he has all DS1's old clothes plus all the stuff the grandmothers buy for him.
  • My oldest was born the first of April while my youngest was the end of Jan. I am just starting to have issues w/clothes, now as DD2 is in size 12 mo. For the most part, I was able to reuse most DD1's clothes.

  • Well, I have two LOs who are not the same sex, but here's my opinion. While some clothes are obviously "seasonal", most clothes are just onesies/shirts/pants, which can be worn any time of year and layered if necessary.

  • my girls are only 10 days apart B-day wise - so we are hoping to use ALL of the same clothes.  I think the only thing that might trip us up is the fact that the older one is a big big girl, so we might get to a point where they are no longer the same size for the same season.

But, I am sure even if that happens, there will still be plenty of cross-over.  ie - what that older one wore in the begining of summer, the younger will wear at the end.

We got rid of anything that was totally stained.  I love hand-me-downs, so it works in my favor that they girls will share their clothes.

  • some yes, some no.

my buys were born 3.5 months apart month wise (march 30 and june 15) and i was shocked at how much the seasons and sizes did NOT match up.

some things that weren't really that seasonal we got to use with the twins- but a good majority of Griffin's stuff didn't get used again - it made me sad :(

  • Yes and no!  DS1 was born 5 lbs. 1 oz in June and went through a massive growth spurt.  DS2 was born 8 lbs. 8 oz in Sept. and also had a huge growth spurt.  So (as of right now) they are/were in the exact same clothing size at this time of year.  However b/c DS2 is so huge (20 lbs at 3.5 months) he pretty much went from NB to 6 months very quickly so I had to pack a lot of them away : (

  • My boys are February and July so the seasons were WAY different.  That was the only reason I couldn't reuse a lot of clothes.  Maybe 1/3 of them were reused.  I do have DS2 wear clothes a little bigger than DS1 did just so I don't have to keep buying new clothes.  But otherwise, their sizes are pretty much identical by age.

  • all the same! both girls were born in the same month though and are roughly following the same weight patterns. It's so nice to save money on the clothes.

  • For the most part, yes. DD1 was born at the beginning of summer and DD2 was born at the beginning of winter - so there are definitely some things that DD2 couldn't wear but I've reused a lot so far (especially sleepers). That didn't stop me from buying DD2 lots of clothes anyway though, girls clothes are too much fun :) I also had to buy DD2 some warmer winter NB and 3 month sized clothes.

ETA: Even though DD2 was born about 1.5lbs heavier than DD1, she was an inch shorter and has grown slower so she's worn NB sizes just about as long as DD1 wore them (til about 2-2.5 months)

  • yes and no.  DS1 is December and DS2 is September.  DS2 was born over 1lb bigger and is growing much faster.  DS2 is already in 9 month clothes (he's 3 months old) and when DS1 was in 9 mo it was summer.  A lot of people gave us gifts for clothes and we told her parents if anyone asked we needed 9 & 12 mo winter clothes.  So far it's worked out - we haven't had to buy clothes and he can wear a lot of his big brothers.  It's a good thing too because he is growing way too fast!!

  • Now that they're 3 and 4 the answer is yes.

Before now?  It was a mixed bag.

My oldest is super thin.  My youngest has a bit of a chunky belly.   They were both in the same sized shorts not this past summer (2 and 4) but the summer before (1 and 3).

Pants they've never worn the same size at the same size but until recently we could interchange shirts up until last year.

At 17 months apart I expected to be able to use less during the first year because they were totally opposite seasons but was surprised by just how much we could reuse with the new baby.  I had to buy a few extra things but it was short lived.  By the time we were 9 - 12 months with the 2nd baby we were in pretty good shape.

     HTH!

Our IF journey: 1 m/c, 1 IVF with only 3 eggs retrieved yielding Dylan and a lost twin, 1 shocker unmedicated BFP resulting in Jace, 3 more unmedicated pregnancies ending in more losses.
Total score: 6 pregnancies, 5 losses, 2 amazing blessings that I'm thankful for every single day.
