Flying with food? (couple of questions)

I ordered some Kringles (pastries) as gifts but wanted to take one to Vegas with us to have for Christmas morning.  Will they let us fly with it (it is wrapped in paper)?  It says it needs to be refrigerated.  Do you think it would go bad during the trip (4.5 hour flight plus additional travel time)?  I'd hate to waste one, but I am dying to have it and share it with my family.

Also, I know I could fly with bottles for a baby, but what about milk for a toddler and other snacks like applesauce?

I'm dreading this trip.  I wish we could just blink ourselves there.

Re: Flying with food? (couple of questions)

  • No milk, they should have some on the plane.

Snacks like applesauce should be OK if it's in a sealed container. But I might forgo applesauce, and do "solid" snacks like cheerios, cereal bars, etc.

I've travelled with food before and it hasn't been an issue. Perhaps the flight attendant would be willing to put it in a fridge? Or can you use a small carry-on cooler to put it in with the kid's snacks?

  • I flew recently with my toddler and had no problem bringing a small cooler full of milk (in sippy cups), applesauce, and other snacks. They just tested the milk the same way they would test breastmilk for a baby.

  • Thanks for the advice.  Sucks because we will be in the air during his lunchtime.  I still find myself stressing if he is getting enough to eat even though he has gained weight just fine.  As far as the kringle, it is kind of big.  Probably better just to leave it at home b/c it will be a PITA to bring, but it makes me sad that we all won't get to share in its awesomeness Christmas morning!

  • Does he eat pbj?  I brought that for DS last time and it went over well. It is food, not liquid, so it isn't regulated.

You ARE able to fly with milk, you just need to declare it.  Same with applesauce and snacks.

  • I think you can freeze kringle, so if you do that and then put it in your checked luggage (where it is pretty cold) it should be fine.

Also, you can bring whatever liquids you want for toddlers. I've had sippys with water and they just scan them. Never had to dump them. Applesauce is fine too.
